I know the iron bowl seems to always be a hard fought game. Im not saying its going to happen, but I was saying to someone today that I can see Auburn really getting up for this game, especially with how their season has turned out this year.

Would be cool if the Heisman trophy actually went to the best player although it seems you have to be a QB on a playoff team to get any attention

True Alabama fans can appreciate the body of work Saban has put together over the last decade and a half.

People who understand the cyclical nature of college football also understand that this will come to an end, and I, for one, have come to terms with two specific facts, one already mentioned.

The second is, that no coach (couch for your Barners) will want to follow Saban. I think it will be quite difficult to find a truly willing replacement. This is due to multiple reasons, one of them definitely being the fanbase.

The expectations for Saban and Alabama are sky high, and that is due to the bar that's been set.

But logical, reasonable fans understand that you can't win em all.

Saban, while building a legacy of not only coaching kids, but rebuilding careers, has surrounded himself with a collection of now head coaches (couches, on the plains) and coordinators who understand deeply how he operates. At some point, it becomes self-consuming.

I think Saban was planning on Pete and Bill being somewhat his last coordinators. Pete to be his mentee, and Bill to be an older, stable voice over the offense. Unfortunately, Saban has failed to develop Pete Goulding into a defensive coordinator worth the SEC rigor. The Pete Goulding experiment needs to end now. Bill O'Brien's offense is vanilla, in-effective and simply doesn't have the high power, fast scoring schemes that are obviously needed in today's climate.

The teams that dominate, score often and fast. Have defenses that lock down when needed and bend, but not break to conserve energy to exert dominance in the 4th quarter.

There is one team like that. UGA.

If Saban wants to get back to dominating his opponents, then he is going to have to get aggressive on accountability with the coordinators.

Alabama has the talent on the field to execute. Sark, Pruitt, Kirby, Kiffin all had success in these ways. Explosive, high performing schemes and the talent to execute.

Alabama is down. That means 2 regular season losses to top ten ranked opponents by a combined point difference of 4.

Plenty of season left with around a 20% chance Alabama still makes the playoffs.

I'll take that as a down year, any time.

Well said. He'll get a statue beside Bear Bryant. Dude should just retire while he's on top. Hope he doesn't get greedy and then "mutual decision" after an 8 win season or something

Already has a statue with Bear and Gene.

I think Saban will transition to a media role quickly.

Exactly this. Being from Lee County Alabama originally, I've witnessed first-hand what the updykes do. Prior to bama hiring Saban my brother in law was wearing Auburn caps. Never saw him own anything with a bama logo on it. Once Saban was hired it was a different bama shirt/cap/socks for every day of the week. I asked him about the Tennessee game this year and he said he missed it bc he was busy. They really aren't going to know what to do with their lives without the identity of being nayshinul champions. I work with a dude who has purchased bama national championship rings for himself and wears them to work every day. Fucking hilarious.

Gooners already went down to the mighty Mountaineers to cement their sub .500 Big 12 season. Time for some BBQ Shorthorns.

    Go TCU!

Don’t count it too soon. Remind me, wasn’t Georgia supposed to have an impenetrable defense in 2019 too?

Another wild game; that 4th quarter was something else. Cadillac has completely revived the AU team and fanbase. Even if he's not the best guy on paper, and doesn't last long term, he's been one hell of a spark to get that team excited to play again. He's a blast to watch on the sidelines too; I can't think of many other head coaches out there that are gonna run the side lines at the same speed and passion as their fastest RBs cheering them on along the way. AL has all the talent they need to run away with the Iron Bowl, and I don't truly expect AU to keep up, but I think win or lose to them, its gonna be one hell of a game.
