The Athletic is pay walled. It was $1/mo for a year over Black Friday, not sure what it is now.

Its funny how bent people are, on hating another team. They actually hate another team more than they seem to like their own!

Many of the statements made about teams either making the playoffs or not center around whether they "deserved" it, by our own personal metrics, or perception/interpretation of a committee's. In doing this, it pulls that data out of context and pinpoints it with a spot light.

Historically, National Titles were awarded by a consortium of associations, sometimes being laid upon a team we would now consider undeserving, according to their black and white data in the W/L column. Are there some Natty's that Alabama claims they shouldn't? Yes, some of those are awarded to them, some are claimed. There is a difference.

Likewise, there are some seasons where Alabama should have been the crowned title winner, but it was awarded elsewhere.

This has all been hashed out in previous threads, and all over the internet.

Fact remains, even if you remove all the "undeserved" titles, Alabama is still WAY ahead of your team, and it isn't even close. The saddest part? It never will be. You'll never experience it. You'll go to your deathbed with Alabama still having more titles than your team. Your grandkids will never see it happen. Yet, you still point out that there are a few they don't deserve, like it matters.

I'm not trying to be dick-ish. Just trying to bring a 30,000 ft view.

Actually we just hate Bama and their fans because you all suck lol.

we don’t “hate you cause we ain’t you” and we don’t want to be you.

sure, we want our own teams to have success, but college football isn’t all there is to life. College football would be a lot more enjoyable if objective measurable metrics were used more than historical favoritism.

I think that Bama, Georgia, and Ohio State do get special consideration when it comes to the voting and ranking and its because of their depth. They often have NFL prospects riding the bench two or three deep. Other college football "super teams" got the same benefit back in the day too. Not saying it's right or wrong, just that it is human nature and the way it is. Check out this 247 sports recruiting talent composite for 2023 and compare the number of 5 and 4 star recruits that the top three attract compared to everyone else.

In other words, "I don't like the system because my team can't be successful in it, or any of it's variations throughout the years, so, the teams that have been successful, get special treatment". And, "They need to change the rules and metrics so we can all get trophies!"

That's the same argument most socialist and communists use for economics. You've simply applied it to sports.

I was pretty transparent about what Alabama claims and has been awarded. Should we start digging into and canceling every program that might have some sort of aura of stink surrounding it? I'd say Auburns gonna vacate a whole bunch of stuff if we start digging around that heep.

LSU? Well, if Saban is dirty now or gets preferential treatment now, he got it at LSU.

    Georgia, well.....that'd be recent.

OSU, is already muddy enough with Maurice Clairette and Tressel, Meyer, now Ryan Day issues.....thats a lot of wins to vacate, national titles to vacate, Heisman trophies to vacate.

USC and the celebs, Oregon and Nike's inappropriate involvements, SMU, and these are all in the last 50 years!

Lets dig back as far as you are with Alabama....to the what, late 1800's?

The argument you continue to spew, is a silly one, that can be made for EVERY national title winning team. They received preferential treatment, somehow. A recruit was purchased, or a ref. This or that......

We can come up with a justification for every win and every loss....and one thing will still remain. Alabama currently, and for the foreseeable future, has and will have the best college football program, in the history of college football.

Now, you can tell everybody here and everybody on your way to the grocery store that you don't want that, but all those people know you a liar. hahaha.

There isn't a single committed fan of any program that wouldn't want to see their team be generally considered the best program in the sport. In history. That's like, the opposite of being a fan, in general sports circles.

No, college football isn't all there is to life. Quickly scrolling through, you seem to post here more than most though. So, you seem to devote more of your life to it than I do for sure. I'm guessing you understand how that argument doesn't hold much water now, right? This is, by all intents and purposes, a truck forum.

Or consider the idea of using rules to help create parity just like other huge sports businesses (and that is exactly what NCAA power 5 conference college football is) like the NFL, NBA, and MLB. I dunno what he was trying to get at but communism was a huge and silly leap. Just sayin.

Hard to argue which teams are more deserving when they actually get to play one another. Short of a bad call deciding an outcome, expansion will fix a lot of these debates. We'll have debates as to who should have gotten the last spots, but I think we can all agree that those debates won't carry as much "what if" weight as the current debates. Those who are most deserving will get their chance to prove it head to head.

Figured it was a long shot for him to stay home, but why not get out and get a change of pace, I suppose.

A few additions to make me feel cool.
I am a lifelong ACC guy and I have no problem saying FSU had no business in the playoff this year. They would have embarrassed themselves and the conference had they been. Even if none of the players had opted out. The results of the first two games coming down to the wire is a result that they got it right. If any team should be butt hurt it’s Ga. And they lost the game and took the medicine.
Bama’s inexperience showed itself. Even with that UM barely survived it with an extremely veteran team. UM fans love to hate on Bama but they are the ones who most cannot stand. Bama is the standard and have done so and maintained this reputation with minimal controversy. They are the only team who every team plays every week like it’s the super bowel. Love em or hate them. Every game they play just means more.
Here is to hoping Washington can match up and blow UM out so they can return to oblivion for another decade.
Every team has fans. Very few get respect. Bama is respected and a lot of people don’t understand the difference.

Michigan "barely survived" despite atrocious special teams play, which is usually pretty solid. Botched snap on an XP, missed FG, 2 muffed punts (one of which leads to Alabama's first TD). That XP gets made and there's no overtime in the first place. Michigan wins by 1....which was also what they were favored to win by: 1 point. In the end they made plays when it mattered and got a tying TD drive and made stops. They even tried to give it away at the end of regulation with the second muffed punt. Then they made plays in overtime when it mattered.

I will give you that Alabama is respected. People love when they lose because they're respected. But people love to see you knocked off when you're on top like Alabama has been for the last several years. Personally I think Georgia is turning the tide (pun intended) but they weren't better this year. People can argue that they think Georgia is the better team but fact is they didn't beat Alabama. Much like Ohio State being ranked ahead of Michigan each of the last 3 years but Michigan still won.

To say "most people cannot stand" Michigan fans is somewhat of a farce. Quite frankly, outside the B1G, not many people care that much. The few that do are vocal about it. I even saw a breakdown of the game by an Alabama fan who went as far as to say the Michigan fans were very respectful to them and were more empathetic to Alabama and their fans than Alabama fans were to their own. Not entirely sure if I'd go that far, but that was his experience. You once told me you just can't stand people from the state of Michigan due to someone you knew in your past and that's your prerogative so I can't say I'm surprised you would have this point of view.

Michigan is favored by 4 or 5 right now. In other words, it is expected to be another close game. Michigan has risen to each challenge they've faced so far this season and there is one more test. At the end of the day there are two undefeated teams left at the top of college football and they both had to beat the best to get there. And now they play for the national championship. Go Blue!
