Did everyone else replace both? It sounds like its just my driver side that is bad.

That's ridiculous. I hope you took it in to have them fix it.

I helped a friend replace a wheel bearing recently. we really thought it was the passenger side with all of your same symptoms. we pulled the passenger side apart down to the hub and it seemed to be in good shape, minimal play. We checked the driver side with the tire on and it was tight. We tore it down to the hub and could immediately smell the burnt bearing. Replaced the bearing and found the torn cv dust seal. Drove the truck and all was good.

So I just replaced mine along with the seal, I decided to replace the diff fluid while I was at it and now I've noticed a leak coming from where the axle goes into the diff housing. The only thing I can think of is I think I over filled it with oil a little bit. Anyone have any ideas?

Sounds like the seal isn't properly seated. I've heard they're difficult.

I haven't done it yet, but very soon. I'm sure someone will pop in who has done it, but unfortunately I think you'll need to remove the the axle again.

When you take it out, pay attention to the way it was seated. Use a 2" PVC coupling to drive it in. Be patient and drive it in even. The seal was the easiest part IMO. Although getting the old one out was a pain without a puller. I believe it only drives in so far.

I saw a thread on TW yesterday, can't find it today, OP was talking about a TSB at Toyota about the needle bearing in the drivers side front diff.
So I went by the dealer today, and helped my service advisor find the TSB 0026-15 I think.
The advisor ordered all the parts, will call me and schedule an appointment when the parts come in!
We'll see, I don't know if or how the needle bearing would be different, but if this doesn't work, they may have to put a bushing in to get me off their back!

Installed my ECGS bushing 2 weeks ago. Came out super smooth, but found my old needle bearing was broken. A small piece of the edge was broken off. Not sure if I did this during removal or if it broke before or after lifting. I had fast vibrations, humming, and growling from 32-50mph that went away in 4WD. After install, I took for a test drive and had 0 humming or vibrations. Over the past 2 weeks I feel it has come back ever so slightly, but without the growling noise. Could just be my imagination, however I do feel a slight buzzing at random speeds now that I didn't really have before. Still have driveline vibrations in the rear that was almost fixed with a 3deg shim, skinny forward.

Starting to think my wheel bearings are going bad. Upon removal of my CV axle from the spindle, I noticed the seal at the back of the spindle/hub, and the little silver ring, spring, had slightly come out, so I put it back around the edge before reinstalling the CV axle into the spindle and hub. Going to do new bearings before the winter or maybe next spring.

Anyone else found their stock bearings broken? Anyone still experience slight vibes?

When I removed the needle bearing, I also broke it in a very similar way. I had forced the bearing puller tool in which caught the needle bearing housing(facing the differential) and broke it. Later, I was able to fish out the broken piece with a magnet.

I also broke mine in the same way, but it broke after I pulled it all the way out I'm pretty sure.

Quick question for those of you that have done the ECGS bushing swap - did you see a need to purchase the $45 bearing/race driver install tool? If not, what is commonly used to create a striking surface to drive the bushing flush to the carrier without causing damage? I see a lot of folks talking about the removal tool, but none referring to the bearing/race driver tool so I figure most aren't finding it necessary.

I have a leaking axle seal so figured I'd attempt to just swap the bushing while I'm in there in a couple weeks.

I bought the driver tool from harbor freight for ~30 bucks and used a coupon. I liked it, probably easier to use than a socket or similar

I agree. Do it right and use a driver tool. Rent one from an auto parts store or pick up a set from harbor freight.
