Actually, no. I picked up the materials, but also rented the pilot bearing puller from O'Reilly. Worked perfectly. Just make sure you tighten the puller so the jaws stay open. Once they are open, it isn't going anywhere. The little teeth on the ends fit between the carrier(?) and the needle bearing, holding it in place fairly well. It only took a couple slides on the hammer and the bearing was out.

True for the most part but it has a completely different bearing in the tube assembly (a large roller bearing) which is what takes out more play then the needle bearing, thus lasting longer and not having any problems

None yet, in the planning stages.
Had the same amount of play in my half shaft as well as a "clunking" noise under certain conditions, this was after having driver's side half shaft replaced due to failure at 50K. Toyota is now replacing the front diff and rear springs on their dime.

Me = :pout: . Had the ECGS bushing done Monday and drove to work about 2 miles and "thought" it was ok. End of day drive home about 8 miles yippiee....noise and vibes. Approximately 2" lift with diff drop, got maybe 20 miles on it before made noise with oem needle bearing. Did bushing, no joy. Put in 4x4 noise gone. 2wd noise back. Sad part is I don't even have 500 miles on the damn thing yet. Am afraid I may have to remove lift, wasted money. If it weren't for bad luck, well you know the rest. What a bummer, was so excited to get this done and over with.

I think I may have to get a dial indicator under there as I got under truck and move shaft up and down and still seems like quite a bit of movement is there. If something happens with the diff now since bushing install I do not think the dealer will cover it now. I know it has to be proven that that part caused the failure but the with combination of the bushing and lift I think I am screwed. All my cash has been spent on all this crap too.

I hate that for you, might sound dumb but I wonder if it is the bushing is causing the vibs or something else. You are the first person that I have seen with a issue after installing the bushing. Your old vibs should have been coming from the "needle bearing" from the original bearing, this being a bushing makes me wonder. Sounds like you have low mileage also. I had to remove my lift because of the vibs and had someone act as though I was stupid for taking it out. But hadn't installed the bushing at that time.

Was reading a post earlier and someone asked a question, and got the smart... answer "read the manual" And I'm thinking to myself, What is this wise guy doing on a web-site like this, where everyone asks questions? shouldn't he have his head in his "own" manual instead of nosing around on a web-site. Doesn't he not have better things to do? Sometimes you can spend a hour in your manual trying to find something OR sometimes you can ask on here and get a answer in five min. sometimes with pics to go with it. If you don't want to help others on these forums, get a life and stop "stalking" them. READ YOUR MANUAL OR SOMETHING. sometimes you get answers you wouldn't get if you were face to face I guarantee that!!!

Appreciate it man, any way you could get how thick the lip is in it to? As in the thickness on the sides that would go behind the needle bearing?

See and I thought the same thing that I am the 1st one as I havn't seen anyone have the issue after bushing. I still want to check the movement with a dial indicator. I am fairly positive it is at least double what Chase @ECGS showed in his video after bushing install. This whole thing has me disgusted and bummed out at the same time....directed at Toyota.

I thought about doing that too. Actually wanted to go here shortly and do it but is getting windy and cooling off, supposed big storms moving in today. I wanted to check it closer when I did the drop I think it was on the right side bottom of the diff housing there is like a little nub that sticks out and after I dropped it I noticed that nub was awful close if not against that front to rear support brace. Was thinking maybe there is a little vibe which was carrying through that brace. :notsure:

Believe me I understand getting pissed at Toyota about this, but if you think you have double the play in it (going by the video of after the bushing is installed) then you may have a issue with ECGS. I hate it for you either way.

Ok, went out and removed diff drop. The left diff support arm is actually what was up against the brace, could see a little wear mark on it already. Anyway took it out and drove it, may be a little bit better but definitely still there and goes away in 4x4. Don't think I mentioned it before but the issue IS better than it was with needle bearing.

Yeah, is why I want to check with dial indicator to make sure, but just looks like it is more movement. When dealing with that small amount of movement is of course hard to actually judge it just by sight. I've never mentioned it because of all the flak people get but I am glad right now I did not get an expensive lift and went with the spacer and AAL first. When funds built up again was gonna upgrade but maybe not now, lol. Anyway the space I used was by BDS and they give a 5yr/60,000 mile warranty so I guess if I did have something happen they would cover it from what the installer tells me. :sandwich:

This is my first CV axle 4x4, and left stock it may be the best truck on the road, but I miss my straight front axle. Had someone say best selling mid-sized truck for 11 years. Well with so many of them being pre-runners (4X2) why wouldn't they be.
