I know that Chase's bushing is 1/4" longer than the needle bearing so I wouldn't put it in too far. I just put mine in about 1mm into the journal/sleeve. A 29mm socket does the trick if you don't have a race driver.

Also, make sure you seat the dust cover with the groove towards the diff on the "diff end" of the CV shaft before installing it.

This is from ECGS facebook page -

You will install bushing flush with carrier just as the needle bearing was, the install tool i used was a a puck and driver from a race driver set we do sell. B/c of the protective sleeve the bushing is in, it should be acceptable to install with a socket. When I get a chance Im going to do another video with a diff on the bench so everyone can see the products more clearly and their will be written instructions with the tool and Bushing.

Thanks Cody! Noted for the bushing install.

I was able to pull the axle assembly, but wasn't able to install the bushing because I ran out of time.

What I did find is that the axle shows impressions of the needle bearing. :( A little disappointed, but I'm going to do it right and order a new assembled axle.

Luckily, I do not need the truck for a few days.

To clarify, which side of the bushing faces in towards the diff? I do not have it in front of me so I can't take a picture. The video is a little blurry, and "lip" and "open side" is a little vague to me. I would call the side with the lip the one where you can clearly see the sleeve and bushing material. Thanks again.

I haven't installed mine yet but I would assume that the side that you can see the sleeve goes into the diff and you would hit it in from the solid side.
Hopefully someone can chime in and say how they did it .

Has anyone had issues pulling the bearing? It wasn't budging with the ECGS bearing puller after a couple hard turns of the wrench, so I backed the puller out. I can feel that the bearing needles are bending because of the pressure yet the bearing will not move...

havent done it yet, but make sure everything is straight and centered. if its cocked it will apply uneven pressure and bend it

TOOL INSTALLED VIEW FROM INSIDE. It is critical that the tool is centered as it will pull against carrier and not needle bearing. The space is very tight as one can see in the photo. It is easy to pull against carrier and not needle bearing.

    1. Insert tool with flat non machined side facing out
    2. Thread in Puller bar
    3. Place plate over puller bar and install nut
    4. Insure it is centered and flat by pulling out on puller bar while tightening nut.
    5. If Needle bearing does not come out fairly easy readjust. This is a feel thing, if it does not feel like it is moving the tool will bend if to much force is applied.

Are you just going to post the instructions here on TW? I say just send what you have and hopefully if we have questions yourself or someone that has done it can answer it.

Does this tool and new bearing only work with the 8" diff on the 2nd gens? I'm assuming that the 7.5" has a different sized needle bearing...

Just installed 5100s at 2.5" and immediately had the vibe on the way to the alignment shop. I will be ordering the bushing and tool today if anyone in the Denver area wants to double up on the tool, I'll likely need the help. Slee Offroad in Golden also seems to be knowledgeable about this issue for additional help.

Thanks Chase and ECGS for providing the solution that Toyota should have dealt with long ago.

If ive or ready had my bearing replaced by the dealer should i just wait till it goes bad again, then replace, or should i just do it? I know the my axle is still the stock one so its probably bad too..
