That skinny wild peak is still in my short list exactly because of its weight. So is the Toyo OC AT. Decisions, decisions :notsure:

For those on the fence of 275 / 285, because the weight and load ratings of most options in each size, take a look at the Maxxis Razr A/T.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/maxxis-razr-at-in-e-and-sl.687907/

No 275 option, but they do offer a P rated 285. Strength wise it’ll fit the bill for 98% of Tacoma owners, they weigh a confirmed ~45lbs, and they run a tad small for a 285.

All said, here they are on my Taco with mudflaps that’s running 2nd Gen Pro suspension (essentially Taco tuned non-adjustable Bilstien 6112/5160) and a 3leaf AAL. Netting ~1” lift up front.
*disclaimer* I do have a mild CMC. This was done prior to these tires and I do not think it would be mandatory for full cycle on my rig. I do get some minor fender rubbing when really cycling hard on the suspension. Nothing that I care about or encounter daily.

The skinny Wildpeak ATs won out. Just ordered up 4 from Amazon for $236 each. Best price I've seen, and the weight savings vs the 275s are welcome too.

This looks awesome! And makes my decision harder lol. I got my suspension done today, 5100’s all around and AAL. I have wheels and tires ready to put on Saturday. I’m torn between the 285/70 and 275/70 wildpeak. Already have the 17x8.5 wheel -10 offset. Think the 285 would fit without a CMC?

Funny that the 285 70 17 C load KO2 is only 51 lbs, and the 255 Falken and the 275 weigh more.

I considered 285 KO2s in C load, but did not want to chop up my truck.

My 255 falkens E Load are 52 pounds so I’m happy.
275 Falkens in C load are 57(!) pounds, doesn’t make any sense.

It’s all downhill from there the first time you take off your mud flaps for a little extra clearance haha

I would have opted for something like this if they were available when I bought my KO2's. I should have shopped around more. Local tire shop didn't offer many options in the 275/70/17.

This reply is precisely what I wanted lol, thank you. Assume no rub? I'm struggling right now with my truck. I have 5100's all around and an AAL. Same tires but I am trying to fit 285/70 since they're 4 ply. Is the decreased weight/comfort real or over expressed?

My wheel is 17x8.5, but they accidentally ordered -38 offset it appears and I have a slight rub. They've ordered -10, which has a 4.36 BS. Hoping this resolves any rub but also curious if it'll allow the 285 to fit.

No, they don't rub, but any bigger and they would likely rub on the front so you'd have to cut the bottom "wing" off the front bumper or use a heat gun to push the plastic liner away.

I have a demello bumper that I need to install so I’m not worried about the occasional rub wheeling out of a target parking lot.

I can’t really say too much to the comfort. I was very methodical with my choices. The wheels I got were lighter than OE, but the tires are heavier. So it’s almost a wash with regard to weight.

as for butt dyno, yes I feel the difference between the GY tires and the Falkens, but that’s expected and I’m very happy with the ride.

for the suspension, IMO is the best money you can spend for an upgrade. The ride is just as good considering the increased height. I always prefer the soft but firm ride if that makes sense.
Since I don’t plan on adding weight to the back, I went with blocks. AAL would make the rear too stiff for my liking. I also like the OE rake so I went with 2” blocks.

I still struggle with the math on the offsets and BS lol. -38 seems excessive.
If I’m right, you’re -10 ones should be nearly identical to my setup and I would guess the 285s will definitely rub unless you cut the bumper.

Overall, I’m very happy with the setup, ride and looks.

For the wheels, I was trying to find a zero offset wheel that I liked, but I found these VTX Rogue SLs in 17x8.5 with a -10 offset and figured that would be close enough to zero offset to fit the tires. Before the comments on how they copied the SCS design, I know and I really like the SCS Blaze 10 in bronze but wasn't going to wait around indefinitely for them to become available. Also, Yota Mafia had the VTX at an awesome price with the lug nuts and reasonable shipping. These wheels weigh in at 23.2 lbs, and keeping weight low was important for me, since the 275s all seem to be on the heavy side.

For the 275/70R17 tires, I went with the Toyo Open Country A/T3s in load range E. It was a close choice between those and the Falken Wildpeak in load range C, but I chose the Toyos because they are much less weight at ~50 lbs vs the Falkens at ~57 lbs. I think there would also be a little more rubbing and trimming with the Falkens, since they are also a little taller 32.4" vs 32.2". It's too early for a review on the tires, but I think they ride better than I was expecting for an E load range tire on a lighter weight truck. I chose to go with all new TPMS sensors (Autel) and have them cloned to the OEM sensors, just in case the stock wheels had to go back on before I lift it.

I removed the front mud flaps before getting the tires put on. There was definitely rubbing on the turns. I had to heat up and push back the plastic inner fenders over the pinch weld and that section between the pinch weld and cab mount. There's no contact with the cab mount. On the front side, I had to push the inner fender plastic forward and trim the corner where the original clip and bolt were located. I zip tied the inner fender well to the bumper for now. That eliminated just about all the rubbing I get during normal driving on the roads.

The suspension is still the stock TRD Off Road setup. Next up, I'm planning on the 6112/5160s with the 1.5" Icon add a leaf and sway bar relocation kit.
