2.5” OME lift, Koenig Six Shooter wheels, 275/70r17 Nokian Outpost AT, CMC, Nitro 4.88s, Greenlane aluminum sliders, CBI aluminum skid, Greenlane aluminum front bumper, Out Gear Solutions HC rear bumper, Baja SAE fogs
Moving from 285/70r17 KO2s to 275/70r17 Nokian Outpost ATs this week. Hoping for a bit more acceleration, handling, and fuel economy. I do a lot of high elevation highway driving and the 33s just aren’t as friendly on road.

Hopefully the 275s do OK off road. We’ll see. Planning on hanging on to my KO2s just in case.

I’ll be interested to hear about your experience experience downsizing. Did you have e-rated ko2?

I have yet to find a 275 in SL rating and lighter than my 285s. I was going to go 275s but didn't like what was out there. I have a kdmax pro 9 tune and going from 265s to 285s I felt no power loss and getting 18.5 around town. My calibration is accurate so my computer is on the money with my hard calculations.

I doubt you'll see much of a pick up in acceleration going from 285 to 275s.
I was surprised to see the Nokians weigh less than the Toyos in the 275s, so that will work in your favor.
Did you also get the OTT or KDMAX Pro tune?

Awesome!!! How much lift did you get from that? What setting on the shocks? How is the ride quality?

I'll get measurements later today. I wanted to let it settle a bit after some driving before recording lift height numbers. The ride is great, even with the E-rated Toyos.

Yes, I have OVTune. The Nokians have the following which should help:

    • 3 fewer pounds of weight per tire
    • Lower rolling resistance compound
    • 10mm narrower
    • 0.5” less diameter
I’m not expecting dramatic differences, just hoping for subtle improvements.

Still will probably settle some more, but here are the before/after measurements from ground to fender, with the same wheels & tires.
    Front Driver: 35-3/8 to 37-3/8 (2")
    Front Passenger: 35-1/4 to 37+ (1-3/4")
    Rear Driver: 37 to 38 (1")
    Rear Passenger: 36-3/4 to 38 (1-1/4")

I'm not surprised the front driver side is slightly higher, since I did add a 1/4" spacer on top of the mount to account for the eventual Tacoma lean.
I expect that corner will drop a bit over time.
I did expect a little more than the 1 and 1-1/4" from the ICON 3 leaf add-a-leaf, which is supposed to be 1-1/2".
My reasoning for that is that the truck is a long bed, and it has the Toyota bed mat and the Bak Revolver X4S roll up tonneau cover, not sure of the total weight.

For the rear settings, I put in the add-a-leaf without putting the overload spring back in. I could add those back for an extra 1/2" if needed later.
Front settings, these were the new style 6112s, and I put both driver and passenger clips on the #10 setting.
I read some say the top setting (#5 on the old, #11 on the new) made the ride too harsh, so I wanted to avoid that.
Also, I wanted to avoid preloading the driver side spring more, so I opted for the 1/4" spacer instead of different clip settings on each side.
So far, I think it rides pretty well on the roads, highways, and dirt roads.

Thanks for the update. I want to get about the same amount of lift that you got. 2” front & 1 1/2” in the rear. I have no idea what the overload spring is. This is the first I’ve heard of it. Sounds like you have the option to remove it or keep it? I’d like to keep between .5 and 1” rake.

Really deciding between 5100s or 6112. Want a smooth ride after the lift and tires. So I appreciate all the detailed info. It’s Helping me on my way to a decision. :)

The overload springs are the flat leaves (1 each side) below the leaf spring pack , made to support the spring pack for heavy loads in the bed or tongue weight when towing.
Here's a set in the For Sale forum with a pic of what they look like removed. The Icon 51100 instructions say they do not recommend leaving in the overload springs.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/fs-oem-overload-leafs-40.791511/

I can't tell you what the 5100s on a lift setting will feel like, but I heard they should be similar to the 6112s. There's a few Youtube videos on the comparisons.
After going to the 275/70R17 E load rated tires on the factory suspension, it got a bit rougher, so I'm happy it smoothed out again with the lift and shocks.

You should be aware that some spring compressors (like the auto parts store rentals) won't fit around the coil spring with the 2.5" diameter shock body of the 6112s.
The good news is you don't really need a spring compressor at all. My new compressor tool was being delivered late on Saturday, but I wanted to get it done earlier.
I used the technique of dropping the LCAs, bolting the shock to the LCA, and using the jack to raise it up through the mount with the weight of the truck to compress the spring.
I'd do it again this way every time, especially after reading about how if the mount is not perfectly aligned to the shock, it will make it difficult or impossible to install in the LCA.

Just starting to think about putting some new wheels on my TRD OR LB. I'm pretty set on the TRD Pro wheels, just looking at tires now. What are some other wheel/tire combos if I want to keep the stock lift?

265/70/17 should be fine on trd pro wheels. My buddy has em on his stock TRD OR

I have the TRD lift kit and went up to 275/70/17 with the TRD pro wheels

Stick with a wheel close to a zero offset. I think the TRD Pro 17"s from the 4Runners have a +4 offset.
I went with 17"s with a -10 offset and fit 275/70R17 Toyos on stock lift for a few weeks, but I did have to trim and use a heat gun on the fender liners and lose the front mud flaps.
Don't be surprised if they rub. Do all your research on the weight of the wheels and tires, the wheel offsets, and the tire size to see what others were able to make work for them. What look are you going for, and what are your functional needs for the wheel and tire size?

I'll snap some better pics later when the weather clears up. But, I just got 275s mounted up.

    Specs:
    • Factory TRD lift (just the shocks and struts)
    • Headstrong 3-leaf AAL with their .5" block added as well
    • AGP Pro wheels (17x8 et+5)
    • Nokian Outpost A/T 275/70r17
    Cheers!

    Looks great. Thanks for sharing.
2 inches up front? 5th notch on the settings?
How is the ride quality? Any rubbing? Looks like there is some rake still. Love it

Hey thanks! Yep, 2”/top setting on the shocks all around, the ones from the factory lift only have 3 settings instead of the 5 that the normal 5100s have.

Ride feels great! Stiffened it up significantly, but not in a harsh way. It got rid of that “bouncy” feeling the stock Off-Road shocks have. The Headstrong AAL is awesome. I opted for the optional .5” spacer they make in addition to the AAL and that’s probably why there’s so much rake. I personally like the look and use my bed to haul shit, so it’ll help mitigate sagging in the back.

No rubbing so far, but I haven’t done any off-roading yet since I just got it installed and it’s middle of winter. I actually feel like I could’ve gone with 285s or some tall and skinnies with all the wheel gap I have haha.

Just got these same exact tires too. I am liking them so far. 285s are overrated, imo.

I love the tires themselves. They just seem to be on the smaller side of 275s even though they have the same diameter as others.

Hows the ride on those RGs? I was about to pull the trigger on these in 275 as well, they look to be only 6 lbs more than C falkens.
