Recently upgraded to some 235/75/15 BFG A/T. Here's the height difference between my stock 5 lug and a TRD OR 4X4.

What's up, folks! New to Tacoma World after buying my 2014 2wd Access Cab. The baby-Dunlops/15 in's had to go a week later and now I'm fully starting to enjoy the truck after just two weeks of ownership. Thanks to all the tips on here before making the purchase, I was able to do some quick mods to put a smile on my face as I walk up to my truck every morning!

As a Florida-boy and now Washington, DC resident, I spend a lot time on the highway and riding back in forth East-coast race tracks with my Yamaha R6 race bike. Looking forward to waisting more money on great additions.

    Tires & Wheels:
    Platinum Allure 252 18x8 5x120 +35mm Gloss Black w/ Milled Accents & Clear-Coat
235/60/18 Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus XL (No cutting mod needed and good clearance all around)

Posting my before and after flicks for the thread. Straight up noob and I wanna say thanks to the forum and posted pics with spec details. Helps to point viewers like myself in a better direction.

Fat bobs lift kit - Front / back with longer leaf spring
Sits just as high as my 1990 Toyota SR5 pick up 4x4 that I just sold
Pacer steelies: 15x8 4.5 BS with 31" BFGoodrich KO2 - I got some slight rubbage going on, not at full lock but at a point before full lock, looking into it once this workday is over. Will probably follow black box removal.

    Hey guys,

I'm heading out in a bit to pick up my first Tacoma later this morning and I am stoked! Here is a pic from the dealership:

    IQ_800-1.jpg

It is a '12 base 2WD 4cyl. automatic trans. I need some input from you guys regarding wheel and tire upgrades since I'd like to place the order this coming Monday.

I've already decided to get the 18" Toyota X-runner wheels. I'm now facing a dilemma with choosing tires. I like what TW member fender104 did with his:
    2012-05-25_16-53-31_27.jpg

Ideally, that's what I'd like to do, with Yoko Geolander A/T-S 265/65/18s. However, a friend of mine told me yesterday that he owned a 2WD Tacoma in the early 90s and put AT tires on in ("very wide tires" as he described it) and hydroplaned from a puddle of standing water while on the interstate. He said he would not recommend wider/AT tires on this model. I would of course want to avoid anything like that since I travel about an hour on the interstate every other weekend.

Any thoughts on that or have you guys had a similar experience?

My other option for tires is the Yoko Geolander G055 255/55/18s, such as the ones TW member schiz94 put on his:

    IMG_011410.jpg

Baton Rouge roads are ridden with potholes and the parts of the city that I am forced to drive in/commute flood after a small shower, so I was trying to get something that would give me an advantage w/ potholes and flooded roads while at the same time beef up the look of the truck without making any more major mods, creating a hazardous driving situation, or creating future problems or stress on the engine/drivetrain. I don't care about doing a lift unless I would be forced to do so with wanting the AT tires. I will do a black box mod if necessary.

So in summary, by upgrading to the AT tires described above, would I be faced with:

    1. Re-gearing the automatic transmission in any way?
    2. Any other engine/drivetrain dynamics to be concerned about?
    3. A necessary lift or suspension mod?
    4. Unsafe dynamics while driving on the interstate?

Thanks again to fender104 and schiz94 for the inspiration!

    Lorenzo
