Everything has been green/yellow down here in Atlanta for the past two weeks. It sucks. I never used to get allergies in the spring up until about 2 years ago. I was taking Claritin but it wasn't doing much for me. I switched to Allegra about a week ago and it's working great. It also doesn't help that I have a landscaping business I run on the side so cutting grass aggrivates my sinuses a little.

I've taken Claritin, Zyrtec, Allegra, Flonase, many OTC medicine but nothing has worked as good as Rhinocort for my allergies. I am allergic to Cottonwood and Mulberry. Allergy season is now not so bad because of Rhinocort. I know, kind of sounds like a commercial but it worked for me.

yeah I really need to get the shots done and do the drops, seems like it's pretty much eliminated your allergies, that's amazing

yes sir, but it rained some last night so hopefully today will be a better day :p

I was doing all those too but xyzal has worked the best for me, it's basically double strength zyrtec I think, it's prescription and helps reduce the sides a lot, but even while on it I'm still miserable :(

I have bad allergies too... All the pollen around here isn't helping either. I take a 120mg Zyrtec (have to ask for it at the px) and that does the trick.

totally man. they can be a little pricey depending on how much your insurance covers but they are sooooo worth it. The skin testing isn't even that bad. they did 27 different allergens on my right arm and some on the left, then if they saw they were really bad, they did another next to the shot. I think I had 3 columns on 27 different rows. 81 pricks! it is definitely worth it though and the drops you only do once a week!

yeah I seriously need to look into that, thanks bro

yeah I missed yesterday AND today, not necessarily to being sick from allergies, I had other stuff pop up too that prevented me from going but feeling like complete shit on top of that makes it even worse, and my workouts probably wouldn't have been that great with a swollen face and runny nose anyway

Just came back from washing the pollen off my truck! Allergies used to last 2 solid months, watery eyes, runny nose, hating life. Got the shots (am 2 years into a 5-year treatment) and it's manageable. Taking 10mg Loratadine and some nasal spray, but I still sneeze and get an itchy eyes and nose. I hope it gets better...

My girlfriend has them, too, but she won't admit it.

Yeah, local honey I heard helps.

that doesn't seem like it's completely worth it, after 2 years you're still having to take meds and still have symptoms?

^^ Sometimes, I'm with ya! The season that finally made me get injections was awful. Face buried in a small humidifier while I was at work. Sleepless/sneezy nights, etc. I was told allergies get worse the longer you stay in one area, and it's true in my case. The injections HAVE helped, and I expect it to get better. Right now, my apt is surrounded by trees and I have a cat - can't say those help things. heheh
You'll always have to pop an OTC pill, but I'd say still go for the injections. Last year I was in Tasmania, and while everyone else was dying 'cause of the stuff in the air I was completely fine. Good sign! Sorry for the lengthy reply...

yeah I've already made my mind up that I'm going to an ear nose & throat specialist soon to see about the shots and also getting my nose fixed because I've been a mouth breather my whole life and can never get enough air through my nose to breath during the day and especially at night, so I need a lot of work lol

lol Yeah, just give your nose a slight lift and put some 33" nostrils on them you'll be fine. Hardly any rubbing when done. heheh (lame attempt at off-road humor)

Good luck - it'll get better!

I'm really allergic to pollen. I have the same symptoms that you have. I don't have any prescription medicine though. I just take benedryl and use alot of viseine. The pollen started here last month and I think its about over. It has also been raining a lot which helps. I hate this time of the year.

This is basically the natural way of giving yourself allergy shots. Allergies are an immune system issue, so shots desensitize your immune system and help you stop reacting to pollen. If you have severe allergies, it's definitely WELL worth it to see an ENT specialist. When you go, ask the doctor about something called SLIT (sublingual Immunotherapy). It's like allergy shots but you do it yourself, it's a single drop under your tongue 2 or 3 times a day. Biggest problem with it is it isn't covered by insurance companies here in the US, but depending on your insurance it might be the same price as shots or maybe even cheaper. I've been on it for 4 months now ( I've got allergies year round, mainly molds) and I feel 100% better, easily worth the money I pay for them.

^^ How many times a year do you take them? Seasonally, or every day? Any side effects?

    lol!
mine is covered... sort of... I think all but $100. but since I work for the ENT practice... they are covered.

My drops were 1 drop one day the first week, then 2 the next week... you work up to 6 drops... but you usually have to stay at say 4 for a few weeks so that you immune system can catch up.
you do it every week. once a week (thats how mine is) no side effects unless you go a drop too high and your immune system isn't built up yet. I just get a little headache but thats it. They do give you an epi-pen just in case of a nasty reaction. they taste a little funky but you get used to it quickly.

Mine are 3 times a day, every day. It's going to vary based on what you are allergic to. Before the prescription starts, I had to get a blood test done to find out what I'm allergic to, it was wicked easy, in and out and just a vial of blood drawn out of my arm. With me, the doctor said I'll be on them for 2 years and then I should be good to go for the rest of my life, or at least for several years after.
