Hello, I have a 2016 TRD OR DCSB 4x4, had the truck washed this weekend, got it home and decided to get all the little stuff they missed. Cleaned up the wheels a bit more and then put some Armor all tire shine on the tires. An hour or so later I went to the store and when I got out I noticed splatter marks all over both sides of the truck. I assumed immediately that it came from the tire dressing not setting to the tore yet. I grabbed some paper towels and cleaned it up but there are still a good amount of light brown stains that didn't quite wipe away. I've tried everything I can think of to get them out, including dish soap and kitchen degreaser, alcohol, and even a magic eraser. Would you happen to have any suggestions or am I without a paddle on this one?

Step 1- Throw the Armor All in the garbage....now...no more like yesterday. Step 2- Throw the paper towels, kitchen degreaser, and holy shit the magic eraser away. Please tell me you did not use all of these on your paint?!?!? I would start by getting a clay bar. Meguiars makes an ok set that is sold at big box stores. If that doesn't remove it, then you will need something to polish the paint. I don't use any sort of hand polish since I do all my correcting with a machine polisher. It will come out. May take a few tries. Please do yourself a favor and spend some time in this part of the forum.

@ace96 thanks for the reply. I did try some of those items in a very small section at the rear of the truck just in case. I was a bit desperate. I will pick up the clay bar kit this evening. Thanks again.

If you clay, make sure you use some lube meant for clay if you never used it before. Clay will help with stuck on stuff, but not sure how chemical splatter will help, but listen to ace about the home stuff that can damage your paint.

Can you post a picture of what it looks like the damage? Hard to recommend from text description.

And try not to clay in the sun. It will evaporate the clay lube.

Just finished trying a rubbing compound in one small spot and a clay bar with lubricant from the kit in another. Neither made a dent. Here are pics. It's as if the stains are residue from what I initially wiped away. It's strange to me the it would eat through the clear coat so fast. What the heck is in that stuff. I'm going to call armor all tomorrow and see if they have a solution. I can't be the only person this has happened to. I'm starting to think the post I read about the anti mold agents In the tires and the dressing mixing together, splattering and damaging white paint are exactly what happened here. I'm just really hoping I'm wrong.

If you are Super White then the clear is mixed with the white when applied. That should polish out. Almost looks like rust specks in the pics. Where are you located? Maybe a fellow TWer can help out.

@LTDSC any ideas on this one?

Rust specs are what I was thinking too when I saw this.

I think they look like rust specs as well. I've read two more outside forums mentioning both "rail rust" and also tire mold agents. I think it might be something I might have to take up with the dealer. I'm located in Irvine CA.

it's at the bottom where Toyota spray extra heavy to put up with dirt and debris kicking up so it's hard to clean there...I got wheel splash from something that hasn't been remove after months.... but I don't clean at the bottom too well. I actually use a finger nail and slowly remove it away. Your brown rust / goo spots. Be careful if you machine polish that textured spot...you may burn through the high spots versus the valleys. have you tried to scratch it off with a finger nail to see what it is? Is it etched on or caked on?

@imom i think you're at least partially right. The majority of it is down in those textured spots on both sides of the truck. However it did make its way almost all the way up the driver door and up the side panel of the bed. Thinking back I noticed a few of these same spots from about a month ago when I washed the truck for the first time. I didn't think much of it. Just thought it was caked in dirt. It is completely smooth to the touch. Can't did at it or scratch it at all.

If it was rail dust, it seems the pattern would be different. Your pattern is such that it seems most likely that the marks are from something that came off the tires?

Have you tried an actual tar remover yet? Or isopropyl alcohol?

You really should relax on all things folks tell you to try and go to a pro detailer to see how they can help you. I have a local to LA if you like a referral, otherwise find someone local to you. You doing more damage to your paint if it is this rail rust the dealer will blame you for Fing this up instead of the real cause of the problem. Detailers will see problems even weird ones all day long. They even clean dog poo etc inside cars. It's new car I get it, but you got to seek professional help if you can't get a good answer. I don't know how the rails from the train tracks can kick up splashes like that and etch to paint...but I've seen sprinklers completely rat fuck a black paint job from high end cars. It's etched in nothing you can do but polish it off if there's enough clear coat to remove it...otherwise it's new paint job. If you just got the truck, talk to a detailer and then talk to Toyota if this is the case. I had a white truck once....I rather have a black vehicle if that makes sense. Both are hard to maintain, but black looks awesome. White can hide scratches, but gets dirty just as bad as black vehicles..but that's up to debate. Take it easy on IPA (alcohol) too especially full strength.

Alcohol is fine as long as it doesn't dwell and it's a very effective solvent. It's often what detailers use use to clean paint after polishing to remove polishing oils that may be masking remaining swirls. I use it for this purpose, as well as for removing stubborn sap.
Its often said that no more than a 20% dilution is necessary, but for stubborn stains you can go higher without problems (my 50% is always on standby for sap)- but as I said, don't let it dwell. Two rags. One wet with IPA, the other with water. Scrub a little with IPA then clean it off with the water-wet rag.

If it's rail dust problem, which I don't think it is, products like Iron-X will fix you up.

Use caution on suggesting IPA. It needs to be diluted. I know it seems like a simple task but not everyone is ready for something that could soften paint.
