My detailing advice would be to not do that.

Hello. I have stumbled onto this thread and would loke to post a question.

As our Tacoma lives outdoors, I always keep about two coats of wax on her twice a year. The real problem we have is water spots. The water where we live is so hard that kids do not run through the sprinklers in fear of bruises and broken bones.

I would always clay bar before waxing, but the wax does not shield against the water. Is there a product out there that would help protect from the water spots?

Side note: Traditional clay bars seem to get the spots oit, but I recently tries the Sonex Clay Disk, and that did NOT get the spots out!

I dry mine off with Duragloss Aquawax after I hand wash my black Tacoma once a week. If I don't you can sure see the water spots.

    So... question.

My mother got into something with her Subaru Outback and I'm not sure what it is. There is something black splattered all over her windshield and it's caked on pretty good. You can't wash it off by hand. It's really hard to tell without washing and claying how much is on the hood. It's hard to see.

I'm going to try to get it off next weekend. I plan and going a wash and clay to see how much I can get off with just clay. My fear is if I can't get any of it off with clay, what are my next options? Should I just go straight to trying to polish it off the glass and paint?

The glass is impacted the most. I'm wondering if I need a special pad or polish for the glass. The hood doesn't seem to affected, maybe a few spots here and there. I mostly want to polish the whole front end to make sure what ever it is, is off the paint. I'm worried it could be asphalt sealer.

Also does anyone have any tips for polishing Subaru paint? Subarus have to have the thinnest paint jobs I've ever seen.

Right now I'm thinking of tackling the job with a Microfiber pad and Chemical Guys V36.

Or do you think just a plain ol organe pad would do the trick?

I would do a google search of Autogeek's forum. Probably find some good tips on there.

I've had good luck on glass using #0000 steel wool, both dry and using with Dawn dish soap as a lubricant.

But by hand... that's so hard.

I want an excuse to use power tools and buy new pads and products!

So, can I wax after I polish? Is there some amount of time that I'd need to wait before waxing?

You can wax immediately after a polish.

What are your guys' favorite brands of clay?

I've used Mother's in their kit and loved it. I recently got a cheap 3M light clay bar and that blows.

Looking for a good clay to keep in my detailing arsenal I don't have to always buy a kit to get.

(PS I am not interested in a clay substitute)

My favorite is Adams. Especially the old gray version. I was able to snag several from Detailers Domain on clearance. I recently purchased a Nanoskin wash mitt. Will report back once I get to use it.
