Last video and last park was AOP in TN. Went there in October with the TN crew and @Brussell56. Had a blast!

Let's try to set a date for Black Mountain. I won't be free until after finals; so after 12/11 I'm free.

Would that weekend 12/11-12/13 work for others weather pending or do we want to do something sooner or closer to Christmas?

Gotta be a Saturday for me. (That ol' 4-letter word, WORK) So, the 12th is best. .

There is one thing (besides weather) that could throw a wrench in the plans. My assistant at work is undergoing chemo (lung cancer) and will begin radiation treatment starting next Monday. He's scheduled for 15 days of that. At this point, there's no way of knowing how he'll fare. I may have to cover for him. I'll know more as we get closer.

I, and several others, camped during the early March snow storm. 10-18in. of snow and lows ~(-10*f). If I made it through that I can camp durning December I'd say lol.

Looking at the finals schedule I should be finished for the semester Thursday 11th so I could do Friday 12th if that works for everyone else too.

I'm down for whatever really. We could try again for Blue Holler if that's better for everyone. I just want to get away from the city and relax.

Edit: Wilderness Offroad is pretty sweet too. I've been there a few times now. Right down the road from Black Mountain on 119.

I had my fill of "camping" in the snow when I was playing G.I Joe. That and a ridiculous work schedule/ridiculous boss for a few more years and I'm a day tripper for now. Not opposed to leaving home in the middle of the night and showing up at day break! I might soon be the proud owner of a small camper trailer ....One with HEAT. If that happens, things may change.

Could leave home on a friday after work, be @ Harlan by early evening. If the wife goes along, we will be staying in a hotel. This much I am sure of.

I'll be in the same situation as the Blue Holler meet, day trip, with my two year old, show up early Saturday morning, not camping . May still go and not do the obstacles. Could easily function as our recovery/camera vehicle. Probably won't have my winch installed before then though.

May bring a friend in a SxS or Jeep also if that's cool with the group?

Any thoughts on which end of Black Mountain we want to go in at? (Evarts or Putney?) My only trip there started at the Evarts end. Putney is where all the "amenities" are at. Evarts has a store, albeit not much in it, rest rooms, etc. We spent 6+ hours and didn't get anywhere near 1/2 way through the place. It's like endless trails! We got out well before dark (after starting around 10AM.) My entire plan hinges on if I can get off work Sunday or not. If so, not too worried about what time we get back to pavement.

Cool. Wife's cousin is coming down (from PA) for a visit sometime around then and wants to bring his side by side. Might confirm the date and invite him out.

The down side is, I spend a day watching someone with a SBS, I'm gonna WANT ONE! A friend had one of the original Kawasaki Mules a few years ago and I dang near had to have one. One of my nieces is married to a guy who has a couple SBS's and a VW rail. I might see if they're interested in going. I'm all for "diversity"!

I'm still in the "green trail mode".....Haven't worked my way up to the point where I'm wanting body damage just yet. The last trip, I referred to the green trails as "beginners trails". That wasn't quite accurate. They were easy, relative to some of the more difficult stuff, but even the easy trails presented enough of a challenge to keep life interesting. At that point, I hadn't done much off roading since the early '90's other than a couple dirt road excursions. By the time we were ready to head home, it was like old times again! The first half of the day I was still in shock and awe mode.

With any luck, this will be my last trip in current configuration. My bonus (at work) should be in my hands right after Christmas. Gonna do a suspension upgrade, sliders, and a few other goodies then.

I think I pushed my luck enough at AOP. Prerunner mode is fine with me too.

After one day wandering the trails at Black Mountain, I couldn't care any less just how challenging they are. These are trails that make you appreciate being in the woods, in the mountains, in NATURE.... This place has a hypnotic effect on you..... The day we spent there, I saw HUNDREDS of people, not the first person had anyting BUT a happy look on their face. This is one of those rare places where just being there is excitement enough to make you want to go back agian and again.
