My auto is neither modern or adequate any more haha. I have a w56b waiting to go behind my poor little 22re. The a340 is just too much for that little engine and it doesn’t utilize gears properly. I think it assumes that at some point some torque will come from somewhere and power you along hahaha

I'm not really a rock bouncer though :notsure:, so that doesn't apply. Yet :)

I have a habit of hating a manual, hating an auto. They both have their pros and cons, situational at best for both types.
I've almost been, strictly, auto/manual/auto/manual/etc... across all the vehicles I've owned. Kinda funny.

Aside from the clunky shift from 1st to 2nd, I have no complaints about the Tacoma and it being a MT. It's not a racecar, or even a car for that matter, I have to remind myself of that. It's not geared like my Prelude was for sure!
I do notice there's less grab in 1st and 2nd than in June 2016. But reverse is stupid fast. No feathering of the clutch on a cold morning start up. Put er in reverse and lift off!

And I shouldn’t be smelling too much clutch with the marlin crawler 1600lb clutch kit in it.....or at least I should hope not lol

Us 4 banger MTs gotta stick together. We're rare among our wheeling brethren!

Don't listen to the hate. You have, arguably, the most reliable Toyota motor EVER!

 I will say from just shifting this thing laying in the floor before and after the lc engineering SS kit, it is night and day! Should be a pleasure to drive and a nice compliment to the twin stick t case shifters I’ll be getting as well!

Situational....If you're moving, or plan on ever moving on rough ground, auto wins. If you're stuck in a creek being winched....Stick is fine. :D

BTDT, change WAY too many clutches

There is a certain amount of power loss through an auto. I couldn't see an auto behind a 4-banger unless it was heavily breathed on. Up side to auto's is the smoother power delivery.

Never had a problem with a manual tranny, but I smoked WAY too many clutches. I had a ceramic clutch (meant for a pulling truck) in my last Jeep CJ. It worked OK....But the clutch linkage wouldn't hold up with the much stiffer pressure plate. I'm just simply a big fan of "simple"....Do NOT like crawling around under the truck working on things if that can be avoided.

Simplicity to me is a manual behind a 22re lol i mean I could prolly keep the auto and drop down to 5.29 gears to help with the 35s but I love the fact that I’m the one who decides what gear I’m in and not a 27 year old ecu. Not to mention when off-roading I’m a 22re it’s mainly low range and first gear. Maybe second if you need some wheel speed. For me it will be a huge bonus in ON road driving. I just have to push the 22re too hard to keep up with traffic and on the interstate overdrive is basically useless.

I had a 22R and 2 22RE's. Good little motors. One ended up with almost 400,000 miles. I had a camper (restored Airstream) Pretty sure a 4 would have balked at the idea of dragging that around under the best of conditions. The V6 handles it. Not a rocket, but it handles it. My dad always said "That's why they make chocolate, strawberry and vanilla ice cream....So we ALL can have the flavor we like".

@PreTacoTuesday I'm also planning an MT swap on my truck!

Power delivery is also sad on my 3.4 with the A340F...

Passenger front seat belt was really slow to retract since I bought my truck, you basically had to feed it back in there. The other day it wouldn't retract at all... Just hung there. Took it apart last night and found this:20180201_200118.jpg

Somehow the clock spring jumped off. Tried like hell to keep the clock spring to stay on the center part. Finally got it to stick when I wound the belt back up it's barely if any better than it was. Looks like I'm gonna be dropping $180+ on a belt. And due to the airbag shenanigans its considered HAZMAT and can't ship via normal channels :annoyed:

 someone to share my sorrows with! I'm gonna dig out a 20% off any part coupon I have laying around for my dealer and go see my friendly neighborhood parts guy and see it he fan hook it up. If nothing else maybe it will save me on the shipping. Broke that damn little red clip as well.
