I'd say I go the same way as Brent. Most likely in as long as work/wife schedule doesn't conflict

The trip to Black Mountain was so much fun that my wife says I gotta start working on the NEXT trip. Looking at 2 weekends. I have to do Saturdays (for now) because of my work schedule. Looking at November 14th OR 21st as possibles. Considering Blue Holler (Mammouth Cave Ky) or Dirty Turtle Off Road Park. Plan is to stay reasonably close to home because of shorter daylight hours this time of the year. And it will be a low keyed run, targeting the entry level drivers. I'm researching Blue Holler and lean towards that site, but have a history with Dirty Turtle back in the day when it was a club grounds for a dirt bike club I belonged to years ago.

So. Here's what I need from you guys. Toss me your opinions. Let me know if these dates are something you might want to do. It's my plan to keep putting together as many trail rides as possible, but this isn't all about me and what I want. Speak up. Get involved. Let's make the Central Kentucky area an active group!

Blue Holler is much bigger than DTOR, 1000 acres vs 270. Blue Holler will be pretty interesting if it's wet but if dry most trails I did were 2wd friendly for the most part. Not sure how many trails I actually did because the map they sell is a joke. I went last month and it was super dry so nothing too hairy.

The 21st is probably better for me. I likey wouldn't make the drive to DTOR from BG.

That's the kind of input I was hoping for! We now have at least 2 votes for the 21st, so it's the target now with the 14th as a secondary choice. I'd bet on it not being dusty dry again this year. I have a history with DTOR when I was racing dirt bikes....The other reason is, it's less than an hour from home! I'll save that for a day when I just have a few hours and want to go play. I'll be talking with someone @ Blue Holler later this week. I've also got a good bit of info from a family member who races rail buggies and has several side-by-sides. He filled me in on Blue Holler. I'll call 'em and make certain there isn't any events going on that weekend that would interfere with us having free run of the place.

I may be in, just depends how s pot my move from Florida goes next week! I have been off roading a few times, but only here in Florida, so my experience is limited to simple trail rides and a few rough experiences in a sand pit.

You would be absolutely welcome to come along with us. In our first "event", we had a couple guys who are just getting started with their off road "career". And I've been away from that aspect of owning 4wds for well over 20 years. It's like falling off a horse though....it just comes natural again after all this time. But we still want to go easy.....Although, some of what we did at Black Mountain WASN'T "beginner level" stuff! The goal is to NOT kill the trucks....No headlight deep mud and water....No rocker panel smashing rock crawling.... Our goal is getting out to the woods and getting a solid core group with a like minded approach to having fun.

Some of us are still building our trucks. No sliders yet...Not a winch among us YET....Give us time, we'll be a little braver. But for now, you'll be with a group that isn't out to impress anyone but ourselves.

I think you'll enjoy Kentucky offroading. From videos I've seen, Florida offroading seems rather flat and tame. I am biased though.

I got a "Hey, nice truck!" From a dark colored (purple maybe?) Lifted 2nd gen AC w/plate bumper at a gas station in Frankfort tonight. Not sure who it was, I was pulling in, he was pulling out. Didn't get to make sure he was aware of TW- Cental Ky. Too bad. I'm sure Bill could have persuaded him to go wheeling with us lol.

There must be a zillion of these things around here. Just noticed a couple Landcruisers in the neighborhood. Maybe time to take this door to door!

    OK...Now this from the "Take one for the team" dept;

My wife and I are both using up some leftover vacation time before we would lose it at years end. Plan was to do some yard work. We've had 3+ inches of rain in the last 36 hours, so too wet for that right now. And we're kinda bored sitting around the house...So...In just a few minutes, we'll hit the road to go find Blue Holler. Gonna get a "boots on the ground" look at the place to see if it's a worthwhile destination for the Nov 21st trip. Evan, if you read this, you're gonna like the fact this place is relatively close to us....Mapquest shows it about 1-1/2-hour drive from 1-65/Hwy44. I'll post details either later this evening, or tomorrow.

In a word....sloppy. There was no one at Blue Holler today except me and Sandy. By the looks of things, they must have had some sort of event there over the weekend. Lots of parking signs, a ribboned off course, and several deceased vehicles. (All Jeep products BTW!) Some of the mud holes look like they'd been blasted through a few times in the recent days!

We rode back into the trails just a ways to look around. All that dust and dry silt that's been laying around everywhere for the past 3 DRY month's.....Well....It ain't dust any longer. And most of it was stuck to the bottom of my truck! The high ground was already starting to dry. We stopped at a little general store just down the road and ran into a couple "regulars" who ride ATV's there. They told me it would be "90% dry" by the weekend.

OK...From what I saw, we would have ZERO difficulty with the trails. Plenty wide enough for small trucks and jeeps. Any serious mud holes had a way around them. Hills were a bit greasey with all the rain. A day or so without rain and it'll be a different place.

Then we went on to do some back roadin' in Mammoth Cave National Park. We took the Tacoma across the Green River on a ferry. That happened so quick I wasn't able to get a picture until we werealready off and on high ground.

Just so y'all know, Blue Holler is SUPER EASY to get to. Good roads all the way, about 35 minutes drive from Exit 71 (Bonnieville) off I-65. Less than an hour from Elizabethtown. If you take US31W (Dixie Hwy) Blue Holler is less than 15 minutes from where you turn off 31W. There are stores and gas stations about 20 minutes from the gate.

Just follow Hwy 728 from I-65 to the front gate!

May show up Saturday morning if we do the 21st meet up. Just in time for coffee/breakfast.

Oh well....Big bux in time for Christmas!

Based on history, there's a good chance Sandy will have breakfast for ya packed in one of our coolers. She LOVES feeding people. That's why I'm so skinny.

Just thought I'd throw this out there too.....I've been doing a bit of research on "Redbird State Recreation Area" near Linton Indiana. It's a state maintained/state owned off road park in southwestern Indiana. A little over 1000 acres. Sounds like a decent place. Some of my family lives in the area and goes there. I have to admit, they own Jeeps....But I still consider 'em family in spite of the shame they put on the family tree... I will be headed that way the week AFTER Thanksgiving. Plan to check it out. "Badlands" in Attica Indiana is much the same story, just more severe trail conditions from what I hear.
