    Alright, I was wrong, it's a Federal Reserve Note, it says "Will Pay To the Bearer on Demand in Gold", something like that, you can read it, here...

    How would one go about selling a $10 1/10 oz gold eagle from 1998? Should I try ebay or is there a better source. I feel like I would get ripped off at a "we buy gold" place.

    Good thread though. I used to love collecting coins, especially Morgan dollars.

    George Morgan was the designer of the coin, the front is Lady Liberty-

    Those letters you state are the mint markings, located under the eagle on the reverse.

    "S"= San Fran
    "O"= New Orleans
    "D"=Denver
    "CC"=Carson City

    there is no "B" mint mark, maybe you're seeing a damaged D?

    you should check the dates- certain dates from certain mints are known as "key dates" and can be worth thousands :D

    gold notes are cool. (pretty rare too!)

    Red means a gold certificate I think, look at the very bottom of the bill, it should say "pay to the bearer on demand". I have a couple as well.

    Is it legal tender? I thought there has been no gold issued as coinage in quite awhile.

    doesnt work in vending machines?
    Nothing's different about 1967s... :notsure:

    the mint makes eagles and fraction eagles as ways of distributing bullion rather than circulated coinage

    Thanks, it's in better shape than the pic shows (cell phone). I paid face for it a couple of years ago. Bought it out of a cash register at a convenience store from a chic I knew, she was ending her shift, counting the till, and exclaims "this bill looks funny".

    If you paid face for it you definately made out! the 50,100,500,1000 notes of that series are worth much more than face. (especially if it's still pretty crisp!)

    its amazing what you can still find in circulation

    Last week I got 2 1967 Canadian Centennial quarters in my change . They are a 80/20 silver / copper coin.

    Some kid must have ripped off their parent's coin collection .

    I found my 1928 sesquicentennial in a "penny war" fundraiser container my school was throwing for the Indonesia tsunami relief fund (I was in 6th grade.....)

    Im pretty sure some kid stole it from his parents/grandparents for the fundraiser, but nobody ever reported it missing. Coins magazine even published my story in their readers "finds" section, but couldnt find who the original owners were.

    My kids will never touch my collection until they understand value :spy:

    The crazy thing is, the "very" next day, I was standing in line at a fast food place, with five single one dollar bills, waiting to order. I saw this lady pass a crisp, sharp detailed bill to the cashier, which ended up on top of the "ones". So I dug out a ten spot and change, (to get the bill of course). 1956 silver cert. $1.00 bill, in near uncirc. condition. But my luck has been down hill ever since....
