I took my test in Bailey with the park county radio club. It was a nice way to get out of the house and into the mountains.

I am thinking of doing the class in March. Can you do the class and test on the same day?

Edit: signed up for the class on 1/21 I see the location on the form but where are the times? There must be a link to to the website this came from?

Edit: Found the link. Class from 8am to 3pm. Then tests at 3pm.

Every test is different. Some are test only some are class then test some are 2 day class and then test some offer different options

If you are going to study for your tech license, I would recommend studying for general too. With general, you can get into HF, not just UHF/VHF. You can even sit for the general exam for no extra cost (there are two types of examiners: LaurelVE with no fee, and others that usually charge 15$ or so).

Also, those baofengs are great entry radios (however there are also lots of haters in the ham community), but are tricky to program. If you get stuck, there are some good Facebook groups and hams among us that can help. Also, most clubs will have someone that can help with programming too.

Very nice, built in GPS too. Never thought to check for deals on a real FM radio...

Thanks for the tip. I think I already have an aprs code from when I was playing around with it on my baofeng paired with aprsdroid on my tablet. Do you know if I can reuse that code? Or do I have to get a new one for this different device?

Edit: Looks like it signed me up for the tests only. Class might be full?

Agreed! There is literally no reason not to try. Your test fee, if there is one, allows you to take as many tests as you pass. If you try and fail you're no worse off and at least have one practice at it.

Yeah, you actually need to really study for the General. I got 1 question right over Half, so like 54% or something on it.

    Technical I only missed 2...
