Got the Kenwood installed tonight and made my first contact with it on the 145.145 repeater on squaw mountain. I still need to work out a mounting solution for the control head and make a mic extension, but at least it’s functional for now.

    What antenna are you using?

I am using a Comet 680somethingorother antenna on a relentless fab hood hinge mount. I havent had a chance to measure the SWR with it yet, but I have been able to RX just fine and I have TX with it once and hit the repeater and someone responded back so at least something is getting out. By the way if anyone here has an SWR meter and coax jumper I could borrow that would be awesome.

If your Kenwood uses the same coax ends as the CB you are welcome to borrow mine again.

Looks interesting Josh, I also suggest talking to guys at ham radio outlet in Aurora, they all have their cars wired up and absolutely tons of knowledge.

@odomandr are there any particularly active 2m/70cm repeaters based in the Fort Collins area? If so I’d like to get them programmed into my radio for when I’m exploring up in that area. There are quite a few shown on repeaterbook.com but there’s no real easy way for me to know which ones get used the most.

I actually was planning to look into this today. My baofeng is not picking up anything from the Denver area. I have been using echolink to listen to nets via computer. let me get back to you on this.

The most active are probably these.

    Horsetooth UHF: 447.275-, 100.0/100.0
    Buckhorn UHF: 447.700-, 100.0/100.0

The DMR machine (this is digital, needs a different radio) gets a fair amount of use.

Horsetooth: 446.7500, color code 7 and time slot 1 for statewide, slot 2 for northern CO

Looks like those are NCARC 70cm repeaters.
The first one is linked to a repeater outside of boulder (lee hill) and claims to extend coverage in to denver.
None of these repeaters are currently on the semi-official TWHAM channel list. Should I add them?

If the TWHAM channel list is of high activity repeaters then those would be good adds. :)
