The 12 volt adapter I had was resetting the radio after every tranmission. On batteries it is fine

Anyone on here experience this with their radio and know what I might have done to cause it?

My radio Yaseu 7900R. Programmed in repeater 145.145 with the proper offsets. Worked 2 weeks ago when I tried it out. Yesterday was trying to talk to @thefatkid and his new radio on it. I could here him check in just fine but when I keyed the mic and went to reply my radio changed to 140.145. The minute I let go of the button it goes back to 145.145.

Thoughts? I am out of town on business so I have not been able to look through the manual.

Sounds like the RX/TX offset got changed somehow so you’re transmitting on the wrong frequency but receiving on the correct one. The correct offset for that repeater is -0.6MHz. Probably just need to get the correct offset back in there and you’ll be good to go. May check that you have the proper tone too while you’re messing with it. Couldn’t venture a guess as to how the offset got changed though, sorry.

I was thinking he possibly switched it you VFO and changed a setting that way. I don't have power to my radio so I couldn't test that theory.

Yeah if he got out of memory mode into VFO mode it would be pretty easy to get the wrong settings in there. I’m not familiar with that specific radio to give more specific suggestions unfortunately.

    What @mountainmonkey said.
I dont have the same radio, but my chinese yaesu clone will display the transmitting frequency when transmitting so that would explain your display. The incorrect offset would explain it not working.

Hey @Lars I was snooping TW HAM stuff and saw you were on the other day. :spy: So I am hitting the easy button

Where do you get your antenna grounding straps from and how do I size it correctly?

Given a centered roof mounted antenna provides the best reception, is there "good" magnetic NMO style antenna mounts or do you have to drill it?

    Thanks Bud!

    Yes.
Just drill holes through the roof. It's better if for no other reason than you don't have to run coax across the roof, down the back, find a grommet and bring it inside....

As for the grounding straps... I bought 25' of 1" tinned flat copper braid on Ebay for less than $1 a foot if I remember correctly. Because of the skin effect, 1" flat works better than even 0awg round wire.

And I've got the three NMO mounts in my garage waiting for my antennas to arrive... Going to put holes through my roof soon. :)

    Yes.
Tundra is going to make the Tacoma look a bit like a toy.
I just ordered a couple more parts. There will be FIVE antennas through the roof of my Tundra when I'm done. 2x 2M antennas. 2X 70CM antennas. and a GMRS antenna.

I don't see this changing anything. The Radios will still continue to be sold by other smaller "retail companies" though Amazon and other similar types. Not sure why the FCC would choose to go after them 1st when you have Rugged Radios out there selling HAM radios to users saying you don't need a license. Rugged Radios appear to either be direct rip offs of other Ham radios or rebadged with different case colors.
