Here it is when I bought it:

For those that love 2 strokes and tight woods riding, I'd suggest a KDX220r! Best woods bike ever, the power band is set up much differently than most 2 strokes, its right where you want it in every gear! its a Dual Sport 2 stroke enduro bike, great for Hare Scrambles!

The Baja Designs kit is a great kit, if you like spending money. My buddy has that kit for his WR450, and it's nice, but severely overpriced.

I converted my WR450 myself, and sourced the parts I needed for about 1/5 of the cost of that kit. Both the head and tail lights are dual filament, so all you need to do is wire them to a switch, you don't need entirely new assemblies.

You can get 2 brake switches for $20(BD kit only comes with 1), the headlight/blinker/horn switch for $50, 4 small blinkers for $30, and a horn for next to nothing.

We basically did the same thing, we looked at the Baja Design kit and for that price it should be a lot better!

We went with this kit to start out with, then sourced other parts. We found it a lot cheaper on ebay or Amazon though. The kit is great and all the lights are LED's. The mirror and handle switches feel a bit cheap but its good for Noobs like myself...

I definitely agree on the price, after looking around a lot more the other night I found more, much cheaper options. Just went to a yamaha dealer today and found out that i dont even need turn signals in NH which blew my mind! Still most likely going to get them and do it myself. Thanks!

This is the exact kit that skewed me away from the baja one! My bike has a tail light already, so i might buy the YZ rear fender and an LED brake light with a plate holder so i dont have to screw around with the plate... Still looking into street tires for it, after all this talk about how dangerous it is to ride on knobbs, im leaning toward 17" rims and the street tires. Expensive tho!!

Anyone have any insight on a DRZ650SE? I'm looking to trade my sport bike for one. It's a 2003 with around 11k miles, looks to be in real nice condition. Any quirks or things I should know about that bike in particular?

Still trying to get back to the dual sport community!

First, it's a dr, not a drz. I owned one for a couple years and it was a great bike. Do some research on the starter gear clutch. I think 1998 and 1999 are the bad years because of the lack of a clutch on the starter which eventually destroys the cases. Also you'll want to locktite the neutral sending switch screws. Other that that I never had a single problem with mine, and I did a few 400 mile + trips.

Yeah, DR, that's what I said

He said he loc-tited the NSS screws, I had no idea what that meant. Makes sense now.

Hopefully it works out and he likes my bike and I like his. They seem like solid bikes and should be fun on a trail.

The big issues you would have to look out for on these bikes would be:

Make sure the upper chain roller has been removed. If the bike bottoms out at all, the chain can hit it with enough force to completey rip the roller off causing a hole in the frame.

If it is a pre 2004, check the base gasket for any leaks. Suzuki decided to use a paper gasket on pre 2004 bikes which have a huge affinity for developing leaks. You shouldn't have to worry though, the bike you are looking at has had both of these items addressed (base gasket replaced with the newer metal one).

ok cool, it involves removing the clutch and about 2 hours work so that's good that it's already done.

    no problem.
