I ride a DRZ400 and I'm about the same size as you, 5,10 155lbs. I don't have any trouble with the weight or height of the bike unless I stall out on a hill. You can always purchase lowering links for the DRZ, I actually have some if you decided to go the DRZ route. I can't say much on the KLX, but I have sat on Honda's CRF250L and its a nice petite size. I'm sure the KLX and CRF are very similar in weight and size. I would have opted for a 250 if I wasn't preparing for a cross country trip down the trans-american trail. With the gear to carry and the distance to travel, I don't think the 250 would handle it well, but that's just my opinion. Check out ADVrider.com, there's a ton of information on that site, its the Tacomaworld of dualsports. If your just putting around the neighborhood to get to some dirt trails, I'd go with the 250. After a few keys mods, it'll rip up neighborhoods and the trails. I wouldn't get on too many roads with the speed limit above 55mph though.

    Edit: Check out this article.

PSU Taco, your KLX is sweet, man. Where do you ride? I've already been warned about "the place we do not speak of", which is pretty much where I'm looking to ride. There's not a whole lot of riding in SE PA. Another factor for me is how easy the bike will load in the back of the truck or a hitch carrier. I think I'm just gonna go to a dealership and look at some in person so I can get an idea of their overall sizes.

Nice man, thanks, I'll let you know if I'm ever in your neck of the woods. Can you load that thing in the truck alone? Do you ride it up or push it? I actually have yet to load a bike in the back of the tacoma, previously I used to use a minivan for bike moving haha.

Yeah it seems like it would be scary. Harbor freight has these double wide ramps that look like you could at least get your feet down on either side on the way up, but still. I saw a guy that had a winch in his truck bed and winched the bike up the ramp and back down. I might look into one of those hitch carriers, anyone on here use one?

Is it fairly easy to load/ unload from the hitch carrier with one person? Brutal you have a dr650 right?

    yes dr650
well my old one versahaul was sweet setup..but i sold it....
then i needed one again and i just picked up a hf one for like $75 with a coupon
the ramp on that one is short...and my truck is real high....just bungie the ramp to carrier:anonymous: if using a hf one.......
its good for up to 400lbs........
if u have a real bike the versa haul is the way to go.....but is real heavy but stable......
if your truck is stock and park near a curb or such its easy as cake......
the hf one has little pins that go into slots so u can walk it up..."its a bit of a pain with that system but its secure"

Oh yeah I'd love a WR, but they do seem a little more on the pricey side, even more so than the DRZ. If I could find one in the 3 grand range that isn't trashed I would jump on it. For that matter I'd love something 2 stroke, but the only option really in something newer is a KTM, right? I don't want to deal with the maintenance on one of those.

Friend of mine had a wr250 for sale a while back. Not sure if he still has it. I can find out though. I think he wanted right around $3k. And yes you're correct about ktm making the only road legal 2 stroke. The 2 strokes aren't as much maintenance as the 4stroke. Adjusting valves and all that crap gets old.

My friend has a DR350 for sale. Can a dirt bike be turned street legal or is that like the whole street legal ATVs that are not allowed to be changed any more?

Varies by state. Some states it's just not worth making the conversion because it gets too expensive.

I'm not really interested but he's talking about getting rid of it and getting a dual sport and I thought about just converting it

If you're in Pa, you need lights front and back, horn, turn signals, and mirrors. You also need a title, which on most dirt bikes, they either were never titled, or the title has since been lost (if it's just an off road bike the title is not super important). It can be done, but it's a pain in the ass.
