I went looking for a good definition of what dubstep is, because I thought I understood what it was and where it came from. I read the Wikipedia article on it and I was not happy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dubstep The last paragraph seems to describe some of the music I like, but I was hesitant to put Skrillex in the same genre with Rusko and Caspa.

Before I went to look at the Wikipedia article, I was thinking that dubstep evolved from dub (bass heavy reggae). If you look at the last paragraph of this article on Wikipedia it seems to confirm that, but the dubstep article makes it sound like it's totally original and unique to the UK. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dub_(music) I really enjoyed finding dub prior to dubstep. I was looking for more dub music when I stumbled onto dubstep.

I don't want to twist this thread into a long winded discussion, but I seem to prefer more instrumental and less vocals. The insult of the terms "brostep" and "mid-range cack" really annoy me. I would not consider myself to be a bro at all. That Wikipedia allows insults like that as an article is not a good sign of the quality of the writers. There's a rating system at the bottom of the article, if you agree or don't agree.

To further blur the poorly defined genre I like both Bassnectar and Beats Antique:

I don't listen to what the haters say about bro step or complextro....I liste to what I listen to. Theres always going to be haters. I love skrillex, mord fustang, feed me, and all those other "brostep" artists. And if you've seen me you know I am not a bro at all lol. That's why there are so many different types of music because not everyone likes just one genre.

Besides I still call it dubstep.. Its called music evolution.. It started with benga and coki, excision and datsik took that music and evolved it into their own, then skrillex and figure and zomboy, and artists like them took that and made it even better as far as I'm concerned

That is a pretty good explanation. Better than Wikipedia. It makes me feel like I should take a class on music theory.

Been awhile since I have posted (deployed) but I have my soundcloud page where I post all my mixes for free DL. Been a couple of months since I have posted one. Here's the page:

been DJing dubstep for about a year now. Looking for someone to DL files for me while I am deployed, little bit of work, but I'll give you all the sites where I get my free music (not torrents and all 320kbs). Let me know if you're interested. Email me at voodootripc (At) gmail.com

I can't believe there is a thread for this. Just stumbled onto Lights(Bassnectar Remix) by Ellie Goulding on itunes. WOW. So this is dubstep. I'm digging it. Can't see any of the youtube vids posted on here cause I'm deployed, but looking forward to some new songs when I get back.

Pretty lights is sick. One of my favorites actually but I definitely don't consider him dubstep.
