I'd prefer new just so I have a warranty honestly.

 

I wonder if the Hero5 will constantly freeze up, not record and corrupt files like the Hero4 Silver? Ever since the update I've had nothing but problems.

I've always had a problem with each one I've owned. I'm on my 3rd Hero4 because I had to return the other two. The first one, Best Buy sold me a returned camera. It was set up as Clint's Go Pro in the settings so I know it was returned. The trim ring around the lens came off of the second one I owned. I had problems with it freezing up from the start. Now this 3rd one will freeze up, not record and corrupt files. This problem increased after the update. I've swapped SD cards (all Sandisk) and still have the problem. Maybe it's not the camera and the issue is with the Sandisk cards? I suppose I could swap brands of SD cards and see if that helps. I love the camera but it does get frustrating when you hit record and waste time because the file corrupts or the camera decides to freeze up and turn off.

 

@Toyotacrawler that sucks! I've always used SanDisk cards in mine, will they warranty it out? Does lemon law apply to cameras? Lol

 

Ha! I wish it did. I'm beginning to wish I bought it directly from GoPro instead of Best Buy. With them putting a return back on the floor and selling it to me, how am I supposed to trust I actually have a new one from the factory now and not a return set to default with pretty new packaging?
I wonder how many times you can return something to Best Buy before they say not anymore??

 

How did you pay? Many bank issued cards offer buyer protection that most aren't aware of.

 

I used my best buy card for the original purchase in July of last year. Long since paid off but I did purchase the Geek Squad protection.

 

Ah, not familiar with how Best Buy works as I usually buy them off of Amazon or at the post exchange.

Have you tried completely reformatting the card? Or testing with a different brand? I use Lexar brand cards without issue to date but I do perform a complete format every three months on all of my cards.

 

Correct I have completely reformatted the card. I've probably done it so many times it has screwed the card up and made this issue worse. I think I will switch to Lexar brand and see if this helps. The only time this issue has really screwed me over was when I was trying to capture a thunderstorm off in the distance. The full moon, clouds, lightning and stars would have made an awesome time lapse.

I get this message a lot when I connect my GoPro. Anybody else have this issue? I've used this computer countless times and it has the GoPro software installed on it.
I usually have to turn the camera off/on 3 or 4 times before it will auto start the GoPro software and allow me to transfer files.

Yes sir. It does it on the Laptop at home as well. I wonder if I reset the camera to default, erasing everything, name, time etc. etc. then install a new card (Lexar) and redo the updates if that will fix most of these issues.

 

I can't imagine how frustrated you have to be with this right now. Can you delete the drivers for it in case they are corrupted and have them reinstall when you plug it back in?

 

Eh it's first world problems haha. I'll try to delete the drivers and see if that helps. I'm becoming more and more interested in that Nikon Keymission. I just think I've received another lemon. Work permitting, I'll delete drivers, set the camera back to factory defaults. Reinstall the update (if possible), Reinstall the GoPro software on my computer and purchase a Lexar card. If I still have the issues I will take it back to Best Buy and see if the will exchange me a FOURTH Camera.

I'm hoping to grab another pair of silver 4's once they drop the price.

 

I liked the edit. What settings did you use for your night lapse? Especially the first one. It turned out awesome
