Called and left a message. I think I need:

    - T8S-456RT-NGTOYOTA 8" REV CLAMSHELL IFS 4.56 THICK R&P(FITS 3.73 CARRIER) $198.90

    - TV6-456-29-NGTOY 8" 4.56 R&P ALSO TACOMA W/LOCKER HD 29 SPL V6 DESIGN (USES 01+YOKE) $194.98

Sorry if this has been covered, but would I need install kits for those?

    Thanks!

Yes and which one really depends on how many miles you have on your truck. If i remember correctly he told me anything over 100k miles you should get the master install kits. I have 60k and am changing my rear end eventually so i went with the cheaper install kit.

So i talked to a buddy of mine who owns a transmission shop and i told him i ordered the mini install kits only and he went on to tell me that almost every toyota his shop has done gears on they have to replace the bearings, not because of miles put on them but because they are pressed on and they are very easily damaged when taking them off! If yall know tha mini kits dont come with bearings so if while installing gears a bearing gets damaged in anyway its a phone call to toyota, a few more hundred dollars, and the few days waiting to get them in from toyota and installed! Was anyone else aware of this??

I called 2 different shops here to get quotes on gears, locker and install. Both shops recommend the master install kit. Trying to salvage the bearings are a PITA and more times then not get damaged. Any slight knick or scratch helps lead to premature failure. Thus, you're back in there again to fix the problem. For what it's worth, I'll be getting the master install kits for front and rear.

There is only one bearing that is a trick but most competent mechanics can easily remove it with the correct tools. It is the brearing that sits on the pinion closest to the pinion gear. By chance if it is destroyed you just need to buy, 1 bearing not a complete master install kit. Yes you do need a master kit with a new carrier/locker, note a drop in locker such as a lock right. On a side not we should have the order today!!!!
