    This is a real issue on Amazon. Even with legitimate dealers. There are the usual scam shops selling fakes, and then there are scammers buying real ones from legit dealers and doing a return with a fake, that then gets resold.

    very well put, this is for sure the case. multi-faceted complex issue for sure. regardless, Leupold (my favorite optics co.) does a great job of letting you check with them for fakes via serial number validations. They make it fast and painless.
