Anyone into strip built kayaks? Once I've cleared some projects from the shop I've got two forms built ready to roll.

You mean like making one from strips of wood? That's pretty awesome but ambitious sounding

Planning on a high deck and low deck. Not really ambitious for me, I do woodwork and construction for a living so. Just finding time is going to be the hard part.

Nah, I'm glad she got the one she did. I don't mind...just thought the whole thing was funny.

This is her anniversary present, and she's happy, so I'm happy....just waiting for an afternoon without passing thunderstorms for her to get out there now.

When i worked as a yacht mechanic in a marina near annapolis, we'd always get our marine ply from CLC. absolutely beautiful boats, and a really cool shop. i actually have a half finished single seater trimaran that i designed sitting in my shed collecting dust. made from CLC plywood. i'll finish it.......some day

I stopped by there a few weeks ago and most of there boats were on there way to a show. I really want to get a group to build and race the little outboard racer they have.

just wait for the New 17' Hobie if $1800 is way out of the price range. Jackson's aren't cheap, but seem worth it

Cool...made me smile watching it. That looked like a ton of fun. Although, being a fisherman, I couldn't help being upset at all the wonderful smallmouth holes you guys were passing up. It would probably take me 2 hours to paddle that stretch because I would be stopping at every eddy to make several casts.

Old town predator mx/13 are cheaper.
The new XL is expensive and has 3 changeable pods for standing, storage or a minn-kota motor

I'd buy this over the hobie and it's still cheaper. I've tried both

Looking for some info on BWCA. I'm starting to plan a trip for next June ( I know it's still far away) but if anyone has a link on gear or tips on must see spots I would like to get as much information on the area before I go. Thanks

Got 17.38 mpg through almost a full tank with the yaks on the roof and a full load in the bed and cab plus passenger. I believe I tend to get around 17mpg normally so I'd say it works pretty good.

Hi all, broke down and purchased a new Jackson Cuda 12. After much research
decided on this kayak for fishing. Came with poll holders and a layout I liked.
The hi/lo seat is great and really comfortable. I have not mastered standing up yet though, just will take a little time. So far I'm pretty happy with it. Nice to slide in the bed of the truck easy on and off. I own a Columbia 18' equipped
fishing boat as well, but wanted something quick and easy to get on the water without waiting at the boat launch. [IMG]

Nice! I'm sure you'll love it. Kayaks are a great way to get around and you're right about having options other than the boat ramp, though I find myself using the ramp almost always. Cool color choice!

My family has a few Old Towne kayaks that we take to our cabin on the Potomac River. Also took them to the OBX this year. Will post pics later. I plan on doing more kayaking this fall. I have a lot of lakes/rivers/creeks in my area that I haven't been to yet.
