I think a Radio should be a must even if they don't have enough lights. I still remember my first run w/o radio there were so many close calls and almost hit Chris coming down from the dunes area. We should make some kind of communication a MUST for Mojave runs.

I've never been on a desert trip like this, but from the little experience I do have, I agree with this 100%

My first major off road / camping trio was German and I was almost bone stock with no communication and it was so difficult. Having a group of 25+ trucks and not knowing what the hell was going on is killer. Then I got a CB and that's cool for basic small trips like Cleghorn, Little Creek, etc with a few trucks, but nothing compares to the quality of a ham. I now have both in my truck, but that's not always a good thing....

I find that half the group usually has hams and half has CB. So the few like me who have both act as relays. And trying to focus on the trial and hazards while juggling 2 different mics, and listening to people talk at the same time is a disaster!

I can only imagine for a trip like this how imperative good solid reliable and understandable communication is. Never been to a desert run, but I would absolutely make a race radio a must. Its just flat out dangerous without communication from the lead.

His truck is going to look like Clark Griswalds house in Nat'l Lampoons Christmas Vacation. Chris, your lights are going to draw power from everyone else's batteries.

It's been a few months since I've gone so I might be in for another. I'll keep this in mind.

So is the plan dirt Friday night and Saturday, then street home on Sunday?

I haven't been able to test them offroad yet. I'm looking forward to seeing what they can do in the desert. They all turn on with the flip of one switch.
