Was just doing a little pre-planning for Moab in October.

My plan was to leave on the 14th spend the night at a rest area and meet up with you guys at the rest area on I-10 right after getting off of 75.
The 15th, drive to Waskom, TX (12.5 hours) and spend the night. On the 16th, drive to San Ysidro, NM and spend the night (about 13 hours). The 17th would be a 5.5 hour run to Moab set up camp and prep for the rocks.
I guessed on 3 days in Moab and my plan from there was to head to Ouray, CO the evening of the 20th to sleep. Hit the passes and Alpine Loop the 21st and 22nd before heading toward home.
Fastest route home seems to be via Oklahoma City from Colorado through Birmingham down to Tallahassee. Would be home on the 25th if I stick to 12-13 hours of driving per day.

12-13 hours on the road back to back seems to be extensive. Better bring a shit ton of Dr. Pepper bud.

I ran a fuel cost estimator as well. Looks like $1000 fuel budget will be more than plenty.

Just out of curiosity, Brian, what did you use to generate your route? I used Google maps to navigate to N. VA. It claimed it was a ~13 hr trip, but on the way up it took us 17 hrs with fuel stops (gas and food) and the odd break to decompress and stretch the legs. We were driving with the cruise control set about 3 MPH above the speed limit as well. The return trip only took 16 hrs or so because we traveled mostly overnight when traffic was lighter.

I'm only mentioning it because you might not get as far as the estimate says in 12 hours.

Google maps, but I am familiar with the route and my times are accurate. Its the route I drive to go visit my family. Speed limit in Texas is 80mph and on I-40 through Oklahoma and Arkansas might as well be a Nascar track.

Google maps assumes average speed of 65mph.

I broke each segment down and did the math using my own known avg speeds for each part.

K, just thought I'd mention it. After all, you'll probably be making a couple more fuel stops than I had to...at least I sure as hell hope a 3rd Gen Taco on 35s gets crappier fuel mileage than a 3rd Gen T4R on 32s. :D

Lol. In 2 weeks it will be a 3rd gen on 35s and 4.88s. MPGs will be back up around 21 on the hwy once the regear happens.

I may be able to do Moab. I was talking to my brother earlier about trying to squeeze in a trip out there late August. I should be done with work travel for the year October 13th. If my schedule stays unchanged I'll be able to make it.
