Lmao direct is no better, Tesla promised a $35,000 Model 3. How many did they deliver at that price? Cheapest one now is $41,880. Let’s not forget how until just recently their advertised price included “potential gas savings” really holding the blanket over the bird cage. But you go ahead and enjoy your direct to consumer model.
Manufacturers want no part in that model by the way.

Think this is pretty spot on.

It’s not entirely up to the manufacturer and the model will change unless makers start producing volume. If dealers have no vehicles to sell they aren’t going to pay massive loans and property taxes to maintain empty parking lots. Said it before, my local dealers sales is shuttered. Appointment only. No reason to pay staff to sit around.

Also as fleets move to EV the utility of a service department diminishes. No oil changes, fluid changes, tune ups etc. Just warranty and incidentals. Though this will take decades. Regardless really doubt there won’t be some kind of direct to consumer element in the next 5 years, even if that means you build and pay a deposit online and finish the deal in person.

Edit: a good example of a model that works is Orbea Bikes. You select your model and local dealer. You can pick and customize your bike. The dealer contacts you to confirm your choices and handles it from there. The bike is built, you get a tracking code and pickup/pay in person. Alternatively you can see your shops current inventory and allocation online. The dealer makes money and provides support. Everyone wins.

    Bro - What U Smoking?

When I post I back up with links, Spock logic and Da Truth. Other posters throw brown stuff on the wall and expect "sheep" to eat it. Well read on and then stop over pricing since its really, really getting OLD.

J.D. Power - As of this writing, Toyota hasn't announced pricing for the 2024 Tacoma trims, but the automaker will likely keep the base price of the least-expensive SR under $30,000. With the destination fee, expect the high-volume SR5 trim to have a starting price of about $32,000. At the top of the 2024 Tacoma lineup, the TRD Pro and Trailhunter trims will likely go for about $50,000

Get real - or go back to ya smoking.

You just linked a random musing from some guy at JD Power, not “backup for truth”.

Here’s the only useful part of you post:

“As of this writing, Toyota hasn't announced pricing for the 2024 Tacoma trims,”

Hopefully it won't be more than a $5,900.00 increase over today's price. Which would put a Rwd SR XC with utility pkg at $34,280.

prob this. It’s just marketers getting lazy and using 3rd gen prices.

It seems possible that the base 2 wheel drive SR stays close to that since they eliminated the Access Cab doors. The upper trim levels will see the larger increases in pricing for sure though.

It certainly feels like you’d be more likely to discover the formula for “pumpkin spice” than convince Toyota to divulge Tacoma prices.

It’s clear they’re juggling packages, engines, options, and considering other products, internally and externally. Like the trucks themselves, the pricing strategy is to try to please all of the people (wallets), all of the time. Can’t wait to see how this works out.

Could be. But I have to imagine they know by now and are just slow rolling out info. Makers of cool shit talk about price early to capture the attention of those about to buy elsewhere and to generate buzz. A la the Land Cruiser. When the price is high you let the buzz develop and they rake them with a high price.

Have a feeling it’s the later.

Anything’s possible. I fully expect they’ll have a 2-door, 30k ($29,999) starter truck splashed on the website and in press releases.

A developing storyline is for people already planning on skipping that basic turbo altogether for the hybrid max. Will be interesting to see if Toyota can offer that powertrain in any non-Pro/TH trim (Ltd, Sport, OR) for under 50k, at 50k, or 55k.

Unfortunately for those of us on Oahu, we only have one Toyota dealer (Servco Hawaii). Luckily, Servco doesn't have any dealer markup over MSRP, but there is little to no room for negotiating on new vehicles.
