    With the right kind of sanding disc isn't not hard at all. Used a good rust converter/primer like you said and it'll be fine. My sliders went on raw and go painted after the welds were done...The rust came right off and the only place I've had any issues was the spot that I hung up on a dirt embankment and slid across...::shrug::
