    Just gussets... everywhere

A Detroit isn't a lunchbox locker. Should work for the rear. Now the front has to be a selectable.

Yeah I'm def not discarding air lockers at all. That's the only locker I would run in a street driven truck. Just stating that there are numerous viable options, as far as street lockers go, that are much cheaper and serve the same purpose for the reason you bought it
your 4runner is awd? is that normal?

Just one more opinion on lockers - If you are looking at budgets and cost, personally I feel you get a lot more bang for your buck with a rear locker and a winch up front. The winch can be a lot more versatile in the future for many other stuck situations.

I am not against locking both ends if you have the coin but I would put a winch in front of a front locker on a mod list especially if you need to balance costs.

Yeah our 2003 is 4th gen V-8 and full time 4WD. I would not put a Detroit in that. I would want a selectable.

Mathew, tow me to Moab, okay? Okay :D

I plan to run a Spartan in the rear and prolly a spool in the front of my '81. I'm just really worried about the turning radius, but I may just get out and unlock a hub if need be.

I agree with this if you just base it on costs and recovery potential. I'd say a winch in general will potentially always be a more pertinent addition to a truck just because you use a winch to get you out of something that a front locker couldn't and adversely this can not be done the other way around unless you are in a situation where there is no option to use a winch.

Looking at it from purely an offroading perspective, that would suck for you and whoever has to anchor you, if you had to use a winch in every situation where a front locker would've gotten you through. Hahaha talk about getting frustrated

    Completely agree with you.

For the purpose of this thread to Moab though, a front locker is not necessary and the slim chance that you get hung up in such a manner a winch will suffice. Just don't want to scare of potential participants with cost concerns. There are trails for all levels of trucks even a bone stock truck.

This is good to know. I would lean more to going not just for the crazy climbing but for the experience, meeting new people and mid level trails. Even if my truck is not fully built or I think I can't afford it all before then.

I don't think she minds unlocking hubs as much as when I tell (ask) her to start airing down one tire while I work on the others. Lol

This thread sucks. I was litterally all set to purchase a set of air lockers...

Don't do it. You won't even need them. Just use yellow wire mod and lots of skinny pedal, and derp your coils!
