I just measured droop on a Dakar pack with stock shackle the other day. Droop is 27.75"

Was trying to do this today but honestly couldn't find anywhere before it was dark….so you think those shocks above would work fine with that droop?

    Old thread bump!

Seems like a good central place to gather info for shackle flip setups. Leaf pack, shock measurements, bump setup...that kinda stuff.

Nothing to contribute right now, just trying to figure things out.

Could someone tell me what the benefits of a shackle flip is? Not sure what it does really? Is it pretty much like longer shackles?

Too much to list, but enough to get me in trouble. Repeatedly.
It allows for more droop ( =more flex), gives you adjustability of your rear suspension, and provides variable lift without the need to swap out full leaf packs. It also lets you accommodate for worn-out leaf springs.

To give you an idea of what can be accomplished with a shackle flip and 12"-travel shocks on custom mounts (leafs are AllPro Expedition)......

So if I understand this correctly a shackle flip with longer shackles will give you more lift and shorter shackles will give you less lift?

OK shackles = more flex and more lift.
What does that do to your towing capacity and your bed load capacity? Sounds like shackles are great for flexing... What if i also tow a 6k lb trailer tho....

bump because I'm curious as well. Wondering how the shackles do with a constant load of weight in the bed, say 600 lbs.

they turn your leafs flat or in a W shape

the leafs designed for our trucks are not developed with this style shackle in mind, so you will lose your arch. shackle flip is not ideal for those who carry weight in the rear if you're looking to maintain your spring arch and desired ride quality.

mild lift (3 inch?) of unknown origin (truck was bought used),much more to come.Self-fabbed rock-rails.
THAT is exactly the info I needed because I usually carry a good deal of camping & other outdoor gear. Thanks.

I'm also interested in doing a shackle flip. but will also be using a deaver expedition pack.

Is the shackle flip always detrimental to carrying weight? Or just for the stock leaves because they'd be in negative arch almost all the time?

I plan on installing a shackle flip w/HD shackles. would an AAL improve the constant load carrying capabilities or is a new leaf pack recommended? I generally just carry camping gear and tools around.

I've been doing some more research on this. And the answer seems to lean towards the new leaf pack. The factory pack is pretty flat (AAL helps), and extra gear just makes it worse. That lack of arch makes it hard to maintain the proper shackle angle. Also, a new pack can give you even more droop.

Did you end up getting shackle flip/deaver set up? I'm running Deaver expedition leave packs with stock length/stock location icons. wondering about this as a viable option to increase flex.

No shackle flip yet, but running the icon AAL. If you’re running the expo pack, I can almost guarentee that you will need longer shocks to accommodate the shackle flip (will gain droop).

I am actually looking into the viability of running the Deaver SUA with the shackle flip. Will likely be making some holes in the bed.

Hopes this helps, but I will always encourage replacing factory leaf hangers.
