ok so i just started snowboarding, ive been up to snowbowl 5 times now. I seem to be doing pretty well. But i cant seem to get going on my toe side, i can do really well on my heel side, but when i try to go into toe side i just crash. What do i need to do> Ive had people tell me that i should find a kind of flat place and just turn circles on my board.

    Thanks, chris

Is it a toe side turn or going straight on that one edge? Are you experiencing "toe drag"? Are your wipe outs consistent (are you always falling forward, backwards.....)

    Lots.
Here is what I check and teach...

First check, what size boot do you wear? If it is a 12 or up you need to be on a wide board.

Second try, lean forward putting weight on your downhill leg, rotate your body in the direction you want to turn while keeping your weight forward over your downhill leg. This should help. A lot of where people have trouble is their toe side trying to carve too early in the learning process. Start slow and small and work your way up.

Third try, going faster. You need centrifugal force to keep you in the turn so the faster you go the easier it will be to stay up :D

Most of all, snowboarding should be fun. Once you can connect turns you'll be having a blast.

yes i wear a size 11.5 so i think i need a wide board anyways. Well im still trying to get comfortable going faster downhill, then trying to carve toeside, I think i try to do it to fast, or im leaning to much cuz i just fall over. im still trying to get the hang of everything haha.

check your bindings set up... when I learned how to ride, my bindings were set 0 degrees for the back and 15 degrees for the front. Or maybe you're really regular instead of goofy, or vice versa. If you're in the right stance and bindings set at the right angles, then to learn toe try to stop on toe. Once you master stopping toe, try to do circles... (not buttering)... circles.

I ride an extremely old Lamar. It says Liquid on the bottom and is all white. No idea on the length. I got it as a gift 8 years ago and it was used then. The edges are rusting through and its pretty well done. I'm waiting to stop growing before I invest in a nice one. I just put new Burton Cartels on it last year and got new K2 Raider Boas for boots. I love the Boa system, just gotta turn the wheel to tighten up.
I was just up at Terry Peak, SD for Christmas with 51" of fresh pow. It was heaven. Nowhere really to go around here, so I don't really have a home mountain.

Thanks, i think part of my problem is actually turning toe side at all. I just seem to stay on my heel. I can stop heel side just fine, its just turning toe side.

Had a hard time between buying a tonneau or shell vs a new snowboard... NOT!
This is what I found today! A 152cm Lib Tech Skate Banana in blue/orange combo! :headbang:

Worth every penny since it took me 2 months to find this size and color combo. I'm hittin up Mt. High this weekend with some homies and hopefully I can finally land my 360s and press boxes easier. I got a season pass and need to go up as much as I can!

BTW, mucho props to Val Surf at Santa Clarita and Thousand Oaks! I recommend anyone to go to those locations. The employees are really helpful and agreed that the $500 Skate Banana is the best board in the market for all mountain fun in the sun. They didn't try to sell me the $700 Lib Tech like other shops...

What is the best way to use my p-tex drip candle? I've tried scraping it off with a metal scrapper but it just pulls it out of the gash. Is there a different way to get the excess off the board?

I didn't want to make a new thread for one simple question

    crap bolted and welded together....
well some ptex is better then others. What i do is jsut use masking tape around the gash(s) and light the ptex and move it very quick over the gash. Then use a razor blade found in a utility knife and hold it as flush as my fingers will allow and scrape the excess off. That right there would leave any ptex in the gash and remove the rest from the surface of the board.

Been to Sutton. Decent terrain... but for a boarder, I found there to be more 'natural' or ungroomed runs than I prefer. This makes for lots of 'bumps' or moguls on many of the runs.

Decent snow conditions on average there.

    So how was everyones season?

Our snow fall was pretty poor but still got plenty of good powder days around here and BC.

Got my split board up and running so had some good days out touring in the backcountry too.

Still got just over a month left till my local resort closes too :D

Heres a couple of shots from the season

^ sick pics bro! My season was dope... hit up Mammoth, Big Bear, Brighton (Utah), Park City (Utah) and have a season pass for Mt High which is surprisingly really good still. I hope everyone is having an awesome season! This is the best I've seen since I started snowboarding back in 1999.
