My wife confessed that Rogue One was the only Star Wars movie she cried in. She thought that at least some of them would survive, and then when she was emotionally weakened from sadness we see Vader march through the ship like Sherman through Georgia. Just brutal, killing everything in his wake. Of all the movies, it’s emotionally as strong as Empire.

But, we would have gotten none of that had Disney/LucasFilm not changed directors. In the Gareth Edwards cut some did survive and the Vader scene wasn't even shot. Gilroy completely changed the dynamic, pretty much how I understand Howard did to Solo.

I read that they went to Disney execs with two endings one where they all die and one where Casin and Jyn get saved at the last minute. They brought both in case Disney didn't like the everyone dying ending. They were given the green light and we got the ending in the movie. John Knoll (Chief Creative Officer @ ILM) had a lot to do with the story because he brought the Lucas element to what they did.

Its worth it. Take this from a long time die hard fan since like 7 years old; i hated 7 & really really hated 8, Rogue One really impressed me so of course I gave Solo a chance and it did not disappoint.

It seems the new norm may be to skip the actual "Episode..." movies and only watch the "A Star Wars Story" movies.

That's how I feel. Even my kids who are big fans didn't really like VIII either. It will be interesting to see what JJ does with IX.

Starting to think the same. 7 was eh, I know what they were doing but it set up for what could be a great trilogy. 8 destroyed all that and made the prequels look better in my eyes lol

7 needed some tweaks to be a really good film, but it was a solid 3 to 3.5 out of 5. Then 8 goes and kills how good this trilogy could've been. Not sure how I feel about Rian Johnson's films after seeing 8

Well they better think about getting IX right, before doing anything else.

Supposedly he's getting his own trilogy. Hence the whole hour on that casino planet that had nothing to do with the rest of the movie. He needs his eye socket flexed

Yeah he's getting his own but it's not directly related to the Skywalker Saga at all. Which I think he will do a better job at since he basically butchered it anyways

Interesting... Were they talking about Episode V? Don't think Kasdan had anything to do with VIII.
