What shocks? In general, i wouldn't put a mile frame on them, I'd put a time frame on them. If you find one leaking, it's time to replace a seal. If you replace 1 seal, replace all the seals. They are cheap and you might as well to keep from doing it again sooner then later.

In a static scenario, the metal parts to the shock should "never" need to be replaced. Yes, physical damage can/will occur but disregard that right now. Shock body, shaft, rod end, cap, piston, shims, AN fittings, reservoir body, IFP .... these arent wear and tear items unless other things fail. Internally, the parts that will wear are the piston wear bands, gaskets and the oil.

Time degrades both oil and rubber. Time breaks down oil molecules making the properties less effective or simply not exist. Time degrades rubber making it deteriate into dust. Excessive heat can also do the same. There is very little heat buildup created from daily driving on pavement as your shocks work very little most of the time so heat degradation shouldn't be a factor. Same goes for slower trail riding or rock crawling. I'd say nothing you normally do in your truck is going to cause excessive heat buildup in your shocks. So, I'd simply consider time. Whether that be a certain time span (example: 5 years) or that be a certain work time (example: 60k miles).

As long as your seals aren't leaking and there's oil and nitrogen in the shock body, i bet you could daily drive on them for a couple hundred thousand miles, if it's in a shorter time span. I personally rebuilt mine after 3 years and probably less then 10k miles just because why not. It's very easy to do and will cost you maybe $80 for seals and shock oil (oil is most of that money). I'd treat your shocks the same way you treat your drivetrain components. Set a mile marker and a time frame. Whichever you reach first, rebuild them.

i may have to replace a nut/bolt or two when it comes time to pull them off. only one year and the salt has taken its course. and i clean them and spray some dry lube on them every so often... f* salt. i'll take a snowy road all day long.
