I have one I'd part with. It's priced a little high, but comes with a free truck.

I'm still washing mud out from underneath my truck. Maybe today I'll have the chance to actually wash the outside part.

Went to dealer again about intermittent drop in power.
Again it drove perfectly on test drive with tech. Anything we think it might be, should cause a CEL. I get no light and not even any "pending" codes.

I'm at the point where i either don't worry and continue waiting for obvious catastrophic failure or throw money away replacing any possibly suspect parts.

On the plus side, if the motor blows, @beertimecontinuum can guide me through a V8 swap.

weak fuel pump? Fuel filter clogged? Dirty injectors? Checked fuel pressure regulator?

    don't know.
Timing retards significantly during moderate-hard accelleration sometimes. Random and intermittent. No pattern to it.
Idles good, cruises fine. No stumbling or stuttering. Just won't rev or put much power to the wheels and pings badly. No clue what makes timing drop though.

hmm... I'm still leaning towards fuel issue. I would check all of the above that I mentioned. You could have them check the FPR pressure, replace the fuel filter. Also, most places can run your injectors through a cleaning system. The fuel pump would be the last thing I would check, just because of the labor involved.

The pinging and timing retardation makes me think the ECU is compensating for lack of fuel delivery. Hence the ping and subsequent timing retard.

My civic “hiccups” under hard acceleration and occasionally throw a code for the o2 sensors. I’ve been putting it off, I don’t like that car anyway...

It makes sense that it would be fuel delivery but there’s a number of gremlins that could be causing it. I hope you get it sorted out!

my understanding is 2nd gen = no fuel filter. Has pickup screen on pump in the tank. Not easy to check or clean in my opinion.

Without more to go on and being intermittent, dealer wasn't interested in chasing it down for me. Especially since I said it's warranty item. First went in about it while still in the 36k standard warranty period.

I'm at 59,900 miles now. First time it happened was under 30,000. Hasn't gotten worse or better. So totally random when it happens. That lack of any pattern is what makes it so frustrating.

I imagine it almost as if there could be a chunk of something floating in my gas tank or oil that just randomly swirls up to cause a blockage sometimes. But I also assume that so many oil changes should have flushed it out by now if it was in oil. And if in gas tank, I should notice issues more when tank has less gas in it since that would concentrate the crud but nope. Before or after oil change, full gas or low, seem to not be a pattern either.

Or some small moving piece that got slightly sticky somehow and just happens to drag once in a while.

yes. been running 93 for over a month. still happens randomly but at least pinging sounds less severe when it does happen.

You said that wrong. You could guide him through the swap. At the rate things are going, cars will be flying before he's done. :D

that to me means you have a fuel problem. Not sure where, but there are only a few things to check within the system. I would start by checking the FPR and maybe running some B12 chemtool or Techron Concentrate through there. I run a full dose on a half a tank, I like my cleaning concoction to be strong. Put it in on empty, fill up with about 6-7 gallons of gas.

I agree though, problems at 36k miles is kinda ridiculous..
