So I finished moving my cab mounts back yesterday. Firewall is tubbed 2.5" back from original spot and cab mount bushing is moved back 3" from original spot then I made the can mount itself more slender so I've got quite a bit of extra clearance in that spot now. Here's the build pics ...

 

Well done, sir. Thinking I may relocate all my cab mounts. And bed mounts. And cab and bed, and rad support about 2.5 or 3.5" back.

 

Assume that's what v8 needs?

 

No, V8 just needs crossmember moved back 2 inches and longer/shorter drive shafts.

Any of y'all want to go to the Nashville Zoo this Saturday? I've got two extra tickets from a work thing.

 

Anybody got any tips? Kinda stuck and don't wanna buy a new hardline. Nut is free of the steering rack but frozen to the hardline. So they just spin together. Going to try and heat up the nut but pretty much at a loss

 

Maybe try a flare wrench? It might help. Or maybe a combo of pulling it while turning?

 

I've got a flare wrench just not pictured. Vice grip is just boogering the hardline up, may try pulling it a bit

 

I always tell them to "static balance" my tires. After suffering through the same issue many years ago (duratracs), the static balance seems to be the easiest way for them to get it right. As soon as you start having to put weights on the inside here, outside there... that's when the techs tend to fuck it all up. They follow what the machine tells them to do, but once they spin it again, it still says to add more weight.. but NOW put them here and here. Static balance seems to alleviate a lot of that "trial and error", and I've had good results with it. Instead of putting the weights to the inside/outside, they just put them in the dead center of the wheel (sticky weights).

 

Most dudes don't know how to properly dynamic balance, or some of the tricks like massaging the beads with the tire machine rollers prior to balancing

 

Need to get the KM2s swapped to the pink bronze wheels and balanced. May go balance beads instead of weights.

 

They definitely got it better than it was. Not perfect but good enough for now.


Something i noticed while there is that my KO2s dont have the extra material just outside the bead to help protect the rim. So the face of my rims stick out from the sidewalls. My Nittos always had that extra lip making the rim look flush to sidewall.

 

I have noticed that as well! My duratracs had this.. WTF BFG?

Maybe I'll go back to duratracs after these are done.
