So what's everyone's views on slotted brake rotors? I'm not a race truck, but I need brakes so I figure I'll throw some 4runner brakes in and get some more stopping power.

I have some, thought it would help with heat as I do a lot of mountain driving. Nope still warp like the stock ones. Maybe a little bit longer before they did. Now days it’s whatever is cheaper.

For you to get more stopping power from slotted rotors, there has to be enough of a loss from brake fade to balance the fact that youre taking away a non-trivial percentage of surface area for your pads to grab. Physics doesnt check out otherwise. IMO for things that arent doing alot of heavy towing or racing, brake fade like that doesnt happen, and drilled/slotted rotors are just for looks.

That said, they look cool

Does physics account for pads gassing off? How about scraping the pads to keep them from glazing over from a lot of light braking? What about eliminating that terrible screeching because there's a rock stuck between your dust shield and rotor?

    Physics accounts for anything.
Engineering accounts for when physics can be ignored.
Accounting says fuk all that, make it cheap but pretty so we can sell at a high price.
    Marketing says "because racetruck".

I purchased these when I went back to tundra brakes, they were $2 more than non slotted on rock auto. I have no idea if they improved braking because I ended up having to reuse old brake pads because the new rotor was too thick to fit in the slot (that's what she said) with new pads.

I figured the mall/cool/bro/ricer factor was worth that $4 extra dollars. I showed them to my wife and I didnt get instantly blown right there in the garage over the slotted rotors, so I would put them as a fail in the cool department. Still not bad for the price.

This rambling was zero help I'm sure, besides learning that slotted rotors does not put my wife in the mood.
