    But they may know shops.

    East Coast Gear Supply will ship you preassembled parts and you ship your old one back to them for core.

    I am in Memphis and am not mechanically inclined enough to touch the gears on my 3rd gen lol. Maybe someday. My wife and I have a tentative road trip planned to Colorado in the spring for fun. I am actually considering getting on the schedule of one of the gear and axle shops out there that does this a lot. We can just get a rental for a day or two and go skiing while its being worked on. That's the plan if I can't find anything nearby.

    Take nuts/bolts out. Remove stock stuff. Replace with beef. Put nuts/bolts back in.
    Don't forget to drain and fill fluids :)

    Swapping the 3rd is way easier than setting up the gears. If you’ve ever changed a cv axle then you’ve done 90% of the work to swap the front diff from ECGS. Rear is as simple as 4 bolts on either hub, sliding the axles shafts out and then swapping the 3rd.

    It’s beyond easy.

    Beyond easy is rotating tires. Swapping diffs is slightly easier than pulling a trans or motor and theres nothing "harder" than that on our trucks. Your overconfidence scares me .....

    Eh, I figure play it more to the book this time since I'm getting brand new everything now. Your old set did me fine, it was my driving that broke the 3rd lol!
    So no more wally's cheap Supertech going in. They also suggested to use additive iirc, in an email or phone conversation at some point in the past, purely for the sake of the Lock Right.

    You must really like pulling transmissions and engines! I'd rather pull a third 10 times over before puling a motor or dropping a trans once.

    I agree. I said pulling a diff is slightly easier. The rear doesn't count. I'm referring to the front. We're also specifically talking about a 2nd/3rd gen Tacoma. I've never put a stop watch on it before but from start to finish (truck sitting on the ground and driveable), I bet I can swap out my trans as fast, if not faster than my front diff. I don't have to put the truck on jackstands and remove the wheels then reverse that process and I don't have to drain the oil then fill it back up. Just those 2 things alone, time wise, make that front diff take longer. I could be wrong but I've pulled my trans maybe 6 times (3 new clutches and 3 new TOB) and it seems easier every time than the 2 times the front diff has come out. Haha

    Ha, I forgot that IFS clamshell's suck so much to pull...too used to just yanking regular thirds out of axles.

    I have to agree here. It was my eff up that I messed up my clutch to trans alignment on the first try. That front diff can eat a bag o dicks.

    4Runner has a thicker shaft on the bj. You can run 4runner arms on a taco if you reem out the spindle, but not vice versa.
