If you’re half decent with a MIG gun you can make back the cost of a good mig welder in a few weekends. I bought a Miller 211 and it paid for itself AND front and rear coastal bumpers for my 4runner within like 3 months.

Because you never gave flux core a chance. It can weld just as good as hardwire if you practice with it.

The few times I’ve used it I’ve not been happy. It’s just messier.

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
Working in the driveway with wind fuks up shield gas though.
Had to split a cardboard box to make a windscreen but could still hear welds changing due to wind sometimes.

    This was the project.
Was a tilt trailer at one time but tongue had been mangled, broken, and rusted to shit. Added new 2" angle to lengthen & strengthen A frame. I notched my A frame pieces so there is mechanical interlock to rest of trailer. Tongue is solid AF now. Boxed and relocated taillight mount to back instead of on fender. Hammered and rewelded some other broken bits on it.

Pressure washed, scuffed, primed with a rust treatment, and topcoated with Harvester Red equipment paint.

Next i need to wire lights and put new wood deck on it.

Looks good man! Welds look much cleaner than I would’ve anticipated from my *limited* flux core experience.

Thanks. Looks good because it's actually regular nonflux wire.
I found gas sunday and finished it all on that.

Did buy some flux core wire and right size tips too though for next time i run out of gas mid-work.

Also had some really shite looking welds where i had spool tension too tight so wire feed was jumping on top of wind gusts screwing with gas at the pool.

When i had that trailer flipped over welding the bottom, i found where couple oem welds had burned through tubing so i guess that means as a noob i'm still better than the paid welder that made the trailer the first time.

I have a massive red oak in my backyard, and I just noticed a bad spot at the base. This tree has at least 30 feet of clear trunk before the first big fork. The diameter at 5' up is about 44 inches. I am looking for some local advice about selling this tree for lumber. I have an email out to Mark Colman at Clover Hill Sawyers to see what he says as I have used him in the past, and he was great.

What's the best way to get some value out of this tree without sitting on a big pile of lumber trying to sell a board at a time? Should I have it cut and sawn and then try to sell the dried boards as a lot, or should I sell the tree as it stands and let someone come take it? Or any local lumber yards/sellers I should contact?

    Thanks

Hope you have some luck on that tree.
I had some black walnut trunks that sat and rotted in my yard after i cut them down. No one i asked was interested in just 3 of them. Said it wasn't worth the cost of bringing the heavy machines needed to lift and load them unless they could get truck loads from the trip.

I'm in the Middle TN area and had my KDMax 6.0 tune installed by @Alcatraz1015.

I have a M/T so I can't personally attest to how much better the shift points are in the A/T, but it is hands down imo, the best thing you can do for the truck.

I, for one will recommend it. I just got it today(thanks @svermilyea)!
    My intial thoughts are:
    1. Definitley much better take off and throttle response.
    2. Power and acceleration is smoother and much more linear now- no more peaks and valleys.
    3. Holds gears better, and seems to utilize the torque more efficiently and effectively.
All in all, a much better driving experience.

Once I put a few tanks of gas through it , I will update my thoughts. But so far, I am very pleased.
