Those shocks are almost long enough to use all the travel. The problem that u might run into is the collapsed length. If the collapsed length is too long then u will bottom out the shock before contacting the bump stop. This equals bad. In order to correctly use the springs and shocks u would need to relocate the top mount of the shock up higher using either a custom shock tower, hoop, or bed cage. Ideally u would want a 12" stroked shock and raise the top mount to a height where the bottom of the shock body is high enough so that your bumpstop setup bottoms out before the shock shaft. So basically by replacing the stock shock with a longer one but still using the stock mounting location u are running the risk of bottoming the shock out before ever making contact with the bumpstop. U could fix this by raising the height of the bumpstop but u would loose up travel then. Yes u would gain some down travel but only as much as the leaf pack will allow. So in the end u aren't gaining any more travel then u previously had because although u gained down travel, u lost up travel.
As far as the ride quality of them, its all about how they are tuned. No matter what the shock is, if it is tuned stiff then it will ride stiff, if its tuned soft then it will ride soft. U can't really compare ride quality unless u have the exact same setup, including weight of the truck, leaf pack, tires and tune and size of the shock.

 

Yeah, from the sound of it after talking to all pro a couple of weeks ago and then down south yesterday, what you said is dead on. I am going to be about an inch to tall while collapsed. I was trying to figure out what I was going to do, bigger bump stop or move the mount. Of course the bump stop is easier, but like you said, I lose travel. So, we will see. I don't like to cut corners, so I will probably end up doing it right the first time.

It is crazy. They are saying it is going to be 73 Saturday and may tie a record high for that day. I want some snow, so I can go play in the taco!!! But instead it is 73... Maybe one day.

 

If the rivers wouldn't be flooded out from all the rain, saturday might be a pretty good day to float the river and get some fishing in.
