Yup. Pros and cons. I bet you see a lot of that sound deadening, for example, get withered away.

I learned my lesson with this buying the last model years of the 3rd gen, they were HORRIBLE. Toyota was of no help and every response was normal operation of vehicle. My buddies 2017 tacoma was WAY better built and never had an issue with it

All of us on TW overthink stuff to be honest. The less I look at all these freak out posts the more I enjoy the truck. I just need to sort out whether I’m keeping this extended warranty then I’m moving on and will slap on new tire, bed cover etc.

My 22 had a super annoying body mount squeak that nobody could fix.

Yeah I owned a a bunch of later model 3rd gens and they were absolute biggest pile of crap ive ever driven or owned. The 16-17 models were far better built

You couldn’t give me a 3rd gen Tacoma HORRIBLE trucks. Every day it was a new problem, oil leaks, squeaks, rattles, horrible driving expierence , diff howl, driveline and whine vibrations, horrible rough idle enough to shake your head and shake the whole truck, I don’t know how guys own them things. I obviously own a 4th gen now and it’s not even a comparison of which is the better truck. Way I look at it is any issues with the 4th gen are a walk in the park compared to my years of dealing with the 3rd gens

My 22 was certainly not a pile of crap - well built vehicle - but I think the difference in years are exaggerated.

I had almost no issues with my third gen. Great truck. It had a body mount squeak and the hands free microphone was never working. Other than that it was solid.

My last 3rd gen that I bought a year ago in September was back to the dealer 8 times or more for the idle in drive, dude it was so rough your head would be shaking could literally watch the truck shaking, and on top of that driving around 50-55mph under light acceleration there was so much vibration through the floor board and gas pedal and steering wheel your body would go numb. I feel horrible for the next poor person that buys that truck. It’s still on the lot for sale since June 29th

It is possible/likely that the last model years of the Tacoma were victim of the same Covid/post Covid build issues that all companies that manufacture anything had and still continue to have.

There is a reason why when I shop for used trucks the filter is set for max year 2019/2020...and I check the build date sticker if it is a 2020.

Nah apologies, I only know what I had heard about from the ordeal with the other dealer and CA. To my knowledge everyone was good to go until they got found out and had to refund everyone and I believe if you have a warranty, it will show you have the warranty, not with an asterisk of where you purchased it. I do tend to play on the safe side of things though and would feel more comfortable with a warranty from CA if I lived there. Canceling with Jerry is easy, he will email you a form, fill it out and email it back. Only downside is waiting a month for the refund check. But IMO you have a warranty until CA makes that dealer pay a fine and/or refund.

I agree. My 16 actually wasn't bad but my 20 was junk. The whole truck shook on the hwy. Went through 3 sets of tires, around a dozen balances and half a dozen alignments. I think I still have a video somewhere of my steering wheel shaking back and fourth. Also had that great diff whine and so did a rental Tacoma I had 8 months ago in Oregon. Needless to say I test drove the 24 with very low expectations and ended up being blown away. Who knows on reliability but it's one of the best driving vehicles I've had.

It will be more reliable then a 3rd gen, there was absolutely nothing special about them trucks at all. They were plagued with expensive repairs.

Oh then yeah you're fine. CA has weird rules, TX doesn't care where you got your warranty. I'm in OK and have been getting my warranties from Jerry for years. I just re-read that quote you posted. Toyota doesn't care where you buy your warranty, who cares is the state of CA.
