Can you explain what it feels like in detail please? That way we know we’re talking about the same thing. Thanks!

Driving normally, come to a stop, let foot off gas and the truck shudders and engagement is delayed when trying to accelerate for about a second then engages and takes off. Very odd and only happens occasionally

Sounds about the same , mine does it more so when the truck comes to a stop or between gear changes.

I don't get a shuddering, but when cold, and within the first upshift to about 3rd gear, the RPM's go up to about 3k+ before engaging, like it is between gears. Then after that it is fine, I've been thinking its due to the fluid being cold. I would appreciate any feedback on this one - Thanks.

    mile after mile
I get the shudder once in a while. It’s always when in traffic and coasting to a slow speed. It seems like the trans just is still in too high of a gear. When you gently press the accelerator it shudders and then it will down shift and be fine. I thing the programming thinks you are going to stop so it’s not downshifting early to allow for a stop smooth.

I have over over 13k miles on mine and no issues. I’m in the tsb range.

Mine engages drive or reverse, and shifts with a bit more authority when it's cold, but it doesn't flare like that. I figure it'll smooth out a bit once it breaks in; I've only got 800mi or so. But flaring between shifts is definitely not normal, broken in or not.

Actually, since being a passenger the a few days ago with my wife driving, I have noticed it does flare into third a little if the transmission is cold the first time it does the shift. We were running late to go someplace, so she was driving with more thunder than usual and I heard it flare on that shift. Since then, I’ve been paying attention to it. It does it to me if I accelerate a bit harder than I usually do. Again, only when it’s cold after sitting for a while and only the first time it shifts. I’ve also noticed that it won’t do it if you sit and idle for 15-20s; I had started the truck and was messing around to reach the charging cable that had fallen down someplace. She drove it again today with me as a passenger and we were very late, so she was driving with purpose again. I saw it flare maybe 250-500rpm on the 2-3 shift. It was fine after that.

I’m inclined to think that there’s some hydraulic accumulator that takes a bit to fill or a solenoid that’s a bit sticky. I’m hoping it’ll clear up after break-in. I’m only to 1100mi or so. Besides that, they might be able to clear it up with a transmission programming revision or something.

I’ll keep monitoring it. If it doesn’t go away or gets worse, the truck has a warranty for a reason.

As for my wife driving hard when she’s late and the fact that you can’t actually make up time by going harder — there’s always some traffic hokum or lights or a friendly constable just waiting to slow you back down — being a discussion that doesn’t bode well for marital bliss…well…that’s a problem I’ll have to solve in good time.

Basically the same thing people always complain about with 6th gear on the third gen. Awesome. Toyota learned nothing.

I think that dude is lying about his VIN . My truck was built around Halloween and has a VIN of around 53,000.

Doubtful how they could have their truck for two weeks and the VIN be 5k past mine which I watched get unloaded off the transporter with the plastic wrap still attached 6 days ago.

What benefit is there for lying about the vin? The OP says a few times that he is unsure if it falls under the TSB.

To me it's worse if his truck does fall under the TSB. That means Toyota is still selling truck that they know can potentially fail without at least trying to fix it first.
