Best way to describe it is “quick strong vibration that is felt throughout the truck only lasts a 1sec then goes away”

I think that happens to mine. Getting it ceramic coated today so I’ll be feeling for it tomorrow when I get it back. Disconcerting given there’s nothing we can do if that all it’s doing right now.

Another black eye for Toyota. Getting stranded sounds like a real possibility with this problem.

Maybe another six months and they will have most of the acute issues with the 4th gen addressed.

I didn’t bring mine to the dealer because it only does it once in a while. I’ll mention it at my first service though. Honestly that’s the only complaint I have with my truck.

They are marketing the best made midsize truck on the road and an overlanding off-road truck but hey you might not make it home because we know that your trans can fail…..do better Toyota

    Yup! We shall see.

Also - ask yourself why the LC with the same transmission from the same supplier does not have this issue …. Are we getting second class parts ?

Apparently mine does as well and I haven't taken delivery. Would have assumed it would have been built after the issues as it literally just arrived by train to Vancouver and was offloaded... 3TYLB ends in 040426

Are you accepting it or going to pass? I don't want to prejudice your buying decision too much, but unless I got a pretty stellar deal on it, I'd pass. The 2025s will be soon in the pipeline anyway.

I'm getting the best deal possible for my 2021 Tundra trade in. They're giving me a deal on the Platinum warranty so I'll probably go with and roll the dice. Worst case I get a new converter and trans at some point.
Figured mine would have missed the VIN cutoff based on the delivery date. Unsure of the build date.

I think it’s an Aisin problem that, unfortunately, seems tied to various batches of their transmissions and those batches don’t correlate directly to the truck build date. I’d rather be in the VIN range to be honest. I’ve got a hybrid and have heard hybrid transmissions are also failing—including a Pro here on TW at 350 miles. The VIN range put out in the TSB is incomplete so if my truck throws a code, they won’t help me.

It is not a simple as Sheldon says - oh we found an issue and fixed it. It’s a persistent supplier problem. I think getting platinum will be the only path forward for me.

I agree, getting ECP Platinum will be the only path forward for the truck I'm picking up as well. If there is an issue there may be a few more perks like a rental car although it sounds limited.

Think may car insurance may cover a rental which should cover the bases...

Wondering why Toyota wouldn't just do a trans flush on any affected vehicles rather than waiting for trans failures which would seem to be more costly to replace with parts and labor.

Not sure but I would rather have a new trans than one that was partially damaged and flushed.

What is your full VIN? That may actually be past the production fix implementation. When I checked your info, there wasn't enough to determine it.

I hope there actually is a production fix based on these vins but if we are seeing trd pros with busted transmissions and folks with trans shudders outside the vin range, I’m not super confident

There are two 3TYLB ranges. The digits that follow LB matter.

B5FN or B5JN matters. I think there was some unknowns about Canada as this was a Toyota US TSB (I'm guessing that's where you are).
