Most people do end up loving it. Just need more who are willing to try it and see for themselves

@Grossomotto tuned my truck Friday and what a night and day difference, ty for tuning at my place... I’m questioning myself why I waited so long to have this truck tuned. Iv driven about 250 miles this weekend and find myself enjoying the truck again. Thank you for making the Tacoma drive the way it should of off the show room floor. :fistbump:

Good to hear you are enjoying the truck again! Trying to provide the best daily driving tune for the 3.5l, so far it seems to do pretty well

In the zip folder you receive:

    - Regular Light Throttle
    - Regular Standard Throttle
    - Premium Light
    - Premium Standard

You CAN run regular octane on premium, but it will produce strange internal knock values and not perform well with the fuel economy. However, regular octane can run premium fuel without issue. Often it will produce better MPG and a slight feeling of a better tune.

In the future tunes will be "octane independent" meaning it will learn and function better with any octane between 86-93. Some places have 85 as regular, just be sure you are not pumping in e85... No truck likes that.

How is interstate driving with this tune? I’ve been running other tunes and still experience a little 6-5-4 dancing with cruise control at 77 mph on inclines on the interstate. Curious if VR would improve that at all or maybe it’s just a current limitation with vftuner?

We typically can stay in 5 and 6 on most interstate trips. Once you push past 75 in a Tacoma you’re at the mercy of winds, road quality, hills, etc etc.

Gear searching is greatly reduced in VR. If you shift into 4th, it’s for a reason. However the truck will quickly return to 5th prior to cresting the hill, and 6th shortly after leveling out.

I can say that the truck will stay in 5th on the interstate up an incline as if you almost have to make it go to 4th. The shifting that this truck used to do has greatly been reduced.

It cruises really nicely. I really like how it will kick down if you gently apply throttle, other tunes I have tried required a healthy dose of throttle to kick down and actually held 5th/6th too long before kicking down to pass and such.

Just bought your tune. What’s the difference between soft and regular pedal? And how do you install in Vftuner? It says file locked

You are trying to open the tune to edit it. You want to hit the little circuit chip icon shown in this screenshot where my cursor is. Then you will see the box below it open.

    2021-06-07 08_51_13-Window.jpg

Then hit prepare ECU (not read ecu)
    Select Calibration File
    Calibrate ECM

Before all of that you may need to update your ECU ID with techstream.

See this thread for more information if you still need help with the flash.

Most people are happy with the regular pedal file. If you find the pedal is too touchy, then try the light file.
