Hey noticed you didn’t get an answer,

You will need a TSB update to run VR.

My ECT function is a true tow/haul. It has adjusted torque tables as well as longer shift points. This keeps you in the powerband longer for pulling loads more efficiently.

You CAN run ECT, S mode, with traction control off. Hold RPM around 1.2k and punch it. You’ll more than likely spin tires in 1st and 2nd. At least I can get my Toyo AT3s to do so.

Admittedly I haven’t personally ran v2.0.3 in over two months (busy working on Sport and a few secret sauce recipes @uploadadventure @GrundleJuice and @shotgunbilly420 can attest to). However, you can 100% expect an “advanced OEM” pedal feel. Predictability and control that makes VR the ideal daily driver.

Much much more to come. Anyone who has worked with me knows I’m meticulous when it comes to these tunes. I apologize for any delays in anticipation or release dates, but at the end of the day I know these trucks are y’all’s daily drivers like mine. I refuse to release a tune until it’s been put through the proper tests and is at a minimum 97% complete (full testing protocol listed in the about us section of the website)

Just flashed an old customer with VR coming from KD. I will say it isn't as balls to the wall (you know that going into it), but in a good way looking from a drivability stand point. We both drove it and he'll report back in a couple weeks. Definitely smoother driving, including the shifts (but again, you can tell they don't hang for power being MPG minded).

Overall it depends on what you want out of it, but the drivability seemed much nicer for a DD imo out of the tunes I've driven. Younger guys will probably still opt for things like KD though.

Sport will be catered to the folks who want an instantaneous powerband. Downside is you will be sacrificing fine tuned control over your truck. With time, anyone will get used to the truck and it’ll just be business as usual.

Definitely on the younger end of the spectrum myself, every now and then I feel like speed is all I want. But then again, gas is over $3 a gallon near the house so my wallet says no

Fine tuned control is a great way to describe it. You can change the throttle position and the gear change will be different (1 vs 2 down as an example). Competitors typically just drop all the way and RPMs keep on climbin.

    Preview of what’s to come:

Y’all ever start to climb a hill at 70 then crest it at 78 while never leaving 6th gear?

I've been on VR tune ( 87oct) for about a month and a half+ through Brian( @grossomoto) . I really like the throttle response and overall tune for a DD. I will occasionally use ECT and often use Smode on the Highway. I dont remember seeing 6th gear prior to the tune and I often cruise way north of the posted limits and seeing 6th and the drop in RPMs is gratifying. If gas ever comes down, Ill try the premium tune.

I've been running current tune for a few thousand miles now and truck has been running great . I haven't had any major concerns with this tune . I keep in touch with @TermLimits if anything I notice should be addressed. The power curve on this tune is great and predicable every time. I have faith every time I need the extra power. Now recently I added a winch bumper and winch and the power loss due to adding a few hundred pounds really isnt that noticable. When I went to moab, ut in April this tune performed amazing on the trails. It was 1,500 miles one way for me , so that was the big test for me with this tune and granite I was loaded with gear the truck did awesome . Shifting is spot on everytime no random shifts . Now since I added weight recently it does go into 4th gear but I have a few steep grades on my commute to work, but 5th holds strong. 6th gear at around 62mph holds really great. I'm on stock gears and that might change here in the next year. Just for the fact it will be easier on the trucks transmission and transfer case. I would like to do 5.29. Anyway I'm sure you will not be let down with this tune . What you got to lose . I spent a lot of miles trying other tunes and testing them to my driving habits and valley runner by far meets my driving habits and my daily commute and offroading.

I've been putting off my review until I've actually put some mileage on my tune.

When I first installed the tune I thought the tip-in was too aggressive. I don't know if it's me or the truck that changed, but tip-in is now perfect. The throttle is perfect. I tried some other tunes that were in the earlier days of vftuner when everyone was sharing files like crazy, and some of those throttles were ridiculous and fun, but not easy for a old man in his daily driver. The VR throttle is super responsive yet smooth. It's hard to explain, but it feels more like a cable throttle to me, which is perfect.

Transmission shifting is miles better than it was. I used to hunt for gears even on pretty flat highways. Now I can do my highway loop to get the kid to nap and it only shifts a handful of times.

My MPGs have gone up by 2. This is averaged out over quite a few tanks, but not a ton. I will be happy to see if it keeps going up, as it seems to be.

My only real complaint is that the cruise control is still way too aggressive, but I never did understand what Matt from OVtune was saying about CC. Can that be changed at all? @TermLimits can chime in for me, but I would love to be able to use CC without tanking mpgs.

I'm excited to see what the future brings, but so far I am extremely happy with the tune!

Are you running the light or standard tune? I’ve got the VR files ready and the VFTuner software installed. Just waiting on my cable to arrive. I’m trying to decide if I should start with the light throttle tune or the standard.

Start with standard. If it’s to jumpy. Change to light.

I actually tried both out. I did regular, thought the tip in would be reduced so I tried the light. The tip in seemed to be the same between the two and I tried the light throttle for a while, but finally swapped back to regular. I would do regular, then let the transmission learn for a bit before trying light.
