The cruise logic for these trucks extends beyond the shift points, in the pro software we have access to more maps regarding cruise but we still are at the mercy of ECU logic.

The truck will attempt to maintain the speed using the least amount of pedal as possible. This is great until you reach hills, it will almost always begin the climb behind where it needs to be. Thus triggering the downshift.

In some of the future tunes I’ve managed to improve the gear holding, however it involved a complete ground up redesign of the product. As such, it will not be a decimal update to VR. Most likely a whole number update to 3.0 or beyond. We also are debating these files a different tune since they are quite different than what VR is.

    Overall:
The standard pedal will have a slight advantage over light with gear holding. But the ability to maintain speeds in the higher gears depends on external factors more than anything. Weight, tire type and weight, wind, road quality, temperature, properly inflated tires, etc.

I recommend that users switching between VR files (standard and light) not reset LV unless strange behaviors arise. Switching between tunes should involve a reset since VR is very different than anything else

When going from the stock tune to VR should I reset LV? This is done with the “Reset ECU” button in vF Tuner, correct?

Stock tune not so much, but yes it is done with the button on VFTuner or through techstream

I've thought about this. The truck has no idea a hill is approaching, but I do when I have control over it. I've learned the best way to use CC in these trucks is to follow a friend and use the radar cruise. I got almost 24 MPG on a tank on this tune following a friend. I'm sure the slipstream helped too.

    Turns out 04B82 isn’t supported. That’s lame.

82? Did Toyota release a new fix? I'm on 04B81 for a 2020 ECU. Or is that a typo? Thanks

Drove from St Louis to Peoria with an empty U-Haul. Pretty stoked on the MPG.

First tank of 87 non E running the light file. Overall ran really good! Had a few downshifts to 4th but truck handled them well. I think I may try the standard file as I read people say it holds gears better than the light version. MPG’s we’re great for 75-80mph average.

Truck is tuned. ran about 30-40 miles today. Will give it a couple tanks of gas before any impressions. I'm hoping first impressions don't last. I did a full start from scratch: updated to 04B33, reset LV/AT and loaded tune. Really crossing my fingers it gets better with miles

Resetting the LV/AT, it’ll be rough for a bit. I’ve done that a few times and thought the transmission was broken with how bad it was shifting for a bit . I drove 400 miles from UT to Idaho and just love the tune. Looking forward to updates and any improvements to come.
