I noticed the update as well. We haven’t begun looking into converting for it.

I would like to know what Toyota changed since the ECU version is 3 years+ old

Most likely nothing changed. Toyota has a habit to change part number after a period of time.

On trucks with the stock airbox it runs just fine. Cold Air Intake equipped trucks get a MAF sensor CEL related to improper calculations vs. what the sensor is "expecting". We are troubleshooting this with a handful of changes right now.

I don't want to roll out a product that works on 50% of trucks.

Sorry for the delay, trying to ensure that we have minimal to no issues so that you guys can just flash and enjoy your trucks

For those of you running VR with an MT, what differences do you notice compared to stock?

Other than the throttle response, I don't have an issue with this truck. For the most part, I don't even have an issue with that, but there are instances with passing or pulling out when the momentary lag feels unsafe. For now, the truck is stock and as it is a daily driver I'm not planning on larger tires or a lift.

Improved gas mileage would also be nice.

I can talk myself into a tune pretty easy, I'm trying to figure out if it will be worth the cost of VFtuner.

How much effect on towing does this have compared to stock? I don't tow much, but if I needed to help a friend out and tow a 6000 pound boat, Etc., I would like to be capable of it without needing to change anything (I am installing a trailer brake controller for the same reason).

All that said, it sounds like VR standared would work well for me, but I'm interested in any holes people can shoot in that. If I found the tip-in too sharp with VR standared, would light still suffice for heavy towing?

Last question, for a truck built in September, anyone know if there have been any changes to the ECU that would prevent VR from working? Of course, this might just be something I need to get VFtuner to find out on my own with how new the truck is.

I know AK there is a tunner in Anchorage, but would rather own the tools than save a small percentage paying someone else.

Edit: Found the answer to the techstream question and removed the question as it is not really related to this thread (other than helping justify the cost of VF Tuner).

Not m/t, but I just flashed valleyrunner and it by far has the best/quickest/most responsive throttle out of any of the tunes I've run- it's actually taking a bit to get used to. I've heard similar about the m/t tune.

I was actually quite impressed with the tune, decided to make a video on it. Not the greatest quality, but I just gave my thoughts on it.

I have it on my 2020 MT and the torque down in the low RPMs is very noticeable. It's also easier to blip the throttle and rev match when down shifting.

Didn't have a local tuner so I bought the full package (software/cable and the now useless to me tune pack), if you have someone local who can do it and you're not planning to create your own tunes, I would go this route.

Thanks, lower RPM torque would be nice. I started in second gear at a light the other day and ended up in an odd situation where the truck would not accelerate, but would hold its speed and not die. The feedback is just odd, compared to every othe manual I gave driven. I can certainly learn to deal with it, but would prefer to change it.

The local tunner charges $350, which is not unreasonable. However, for $400 I can have the same tune ($349 VFTunner, $45 for VR) as well as the $170 Tactrix cable (allowing the use of Techstream for an additional $30, and saving me from needing to spend $250 on a tool to change the TPMS sensor IDs for my winter tires), and the ability to change between light and standard VR without having to coordinate with someone else. So, I'm pretty sure if I do it I'll just buy VFtuner.

Ok, after listing all that out I think I should just pull the trigger.

Starting in second with this truck is simply a no go for me, even with the tune.

Also something that would greatly improve your experience, do the accumulator delete: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/mt-accumulator-delete-mod-adm-and-bs-thread.568303/
