So far so good. My 2018 has been a problem child with tunes. Hopefully this is the final one! Need to get more miles on it!

Met up with Jeff over the weekend to get the VR tune installed on my 2020 TRD OR 6M/T. I was a bit skeptical as to how beneficial a tune would be with a manual transmission (obviously gear hunting isn't an issue), but coming from a stock tune it really feels like a different truck (especially in 1st and 2nd gear). I've only had the tune a couple days now, but have been going out of my way finding excuses to drive and taking the long way home so I can drive some hills. My only regret is not getting tuned sooner!

Another happily tuned VR truck today (I think). I had to go for a lengthy test ride because these MT owners are critical. :) And he owned a couple bmw M3s so he's into tunes. It was the first mod for his Tacoma.

Since I installed 315/75/16 tires on the yota and had my vr updated to 34" tires man it's handling it very well. With stock gears i can get to 6th gear 60mph ,but ,but lol it doesn't like hills lol. I mainly cruise 5th gear 1850rpms half lock tc. If I go up hills it will kick in full lock tc and does just fine . I've been able to keep 19mpg with my set up . Haven't done any long trips yet. If its any consolation I got 362.20 out of my last tank full.

Ok I put some miles on the tune with a reset of everything I could reset.

The throttle is again like an on/off switch. I just pulled out of my office and no matter how sensitive I am on the throttle it’s a bucking bronco and feels like something will break.

Is something up with 2018 trucks? I’ve heard people have issues with other tunes on 2018 but not sure what the details are.

Yeah, my 2018 doesn't always match well with different tunes, but Valley Runner and Overland Tailor have always performed well on my truck. When other tunes would cause my truck to feel jumpy/jerky, I could always count on VR to smooth it back out. Not sure what's up with your specific truck though. Like TermLimits said earlier, Lite VR has always produced smooth throttle for me when other tunes didn't. If that's what you're currently on, and you've reset your ECU and TCU, then I'm not sure what else to do other than try to work directly with Jeff to see if he's able to pinpoint the problem. Best of luck to you!

Flashed yesterday and I am impressed!! Haven't really broken it in but I like it so far. I almost feel bad that I went with Valley Runner first and didn't try any others since I'm sure I am most likely sticking with it haha.

Oh for sure that's what I am shooting for. Used to get an average of 21mpg, I'm pretty sure this way I can hit 400mi/tank easy

That is my story too. VR makes me happy, so why try anything else.

I'll be on Long Island NY (south shore) on Sunday May 15th from 11am-? for Valley Runner tuning if anyone is interested. There's a few other owners there, so it'll be an event. There's even beer and hotdogs!

The tune is just $200, if we get to 5+ people then just $150 :)

@TermLimits you gonna refine vr with the new vf tuner update?

We are finalizing the sport tune then will double back to look into what could be refined further wit VR. As it stands, VR is still the most refined and smooth tune on the market.

Sport is 99.9% complete, finishing A/B testing with a few trucks then converting for the rest of the model years. (Check your PM later today)

The sport tune in testing gradually adjusted however we were cruising around the interstate around 70mph, watching the miles to empty go up. Took a photo at half tank showing 198 to empty.

Granted this was also on a bone stock truck, however it's pretty good to have almost if not over 400mi to empty per tank.

    --------------------

In other news, we now have 2016-2017 MT pre-tuned ECUs available through the website for those who not serviced by a local installer. More MT years are on the way.

I think it learns from your previous fuel up. My trick is maintaining a consistent speed, not too fast nor too slow, valley runner, and 50/50 city/hwy driving. This is my last fill-up, could have gotten to 420 had i emptied the tank haha. I agree with Term Limits too, i keep the truck at around 60-69 mph. Also a K&N filter probably helps slightly some too.
