How do you calculate it then? Every fill up mine says 255ish.

Yeah I’m not even tuned yet just stock and every fill up it’s around 255-258. I’ve never seen it at 300+ or 18mpg like people claim. I don’t know if it’s because my daily commute is a short drive mostly or what. I don’t really ever “floor it”

Yea FINALLY got to where outside factors stopped affecting the development. First was getting a new laptop and being locked out of the tune files (same master key but somehow couldn't open files). Then we rebuilt from scratch but a VF update changed map/table names so converting was a major issue and the files would cause trucks to stall out in driveways.

With the v1.6 of VF now, we regained access to the original good files from November and re-lost our progress since then :bananadead: but we've been converting strong and they're 99.9% ready. @YotaTuneR knows its a completely new driving experience.

We will be verifying the functionality of a few more ECUs that came in, one should be a viable 2019 MT computer. Would you like me to message you when its ready?

    -------------------------------------

    Question for EVERYONE:

ECT Functionality... Would you prefer a true Tow/Haul mode or simply a more aggressive driving style?

I added a poll to this thread for the results. Please cast a vote there if you get the chance.

We have managed to correctly reverse the function of this button. Meaning that in future tunes or updates it is possible to have the ECT driving dynamics enabled without the button being activated. Essentially rendering it to only being a fancy green LED in the gauges.

It is entirely possible to route a significantly more aggressive driving style to button activation or simply adjust the referenced shifts/airloads/torque models to mirror that of a proper Tow/Haul button.

Been driving with New Sport Tester on my commute for about a week. 2020 TRD Offroad 4X4.
Definitely more Power & Torque - Strong. Trans shifting - smooth & precise.
Like @TermLimits said "completely new driving experience" - You can feel the difference just in revving it after the Flash.
Smooth & Docile in Bumper to Bumper Traffic. When the Lanes Open Up - Easily your doing 80 even 90 MPH with no issues.
I really am surprised at how the Engine reacted to the Sport Tune. It doesn't feel stressed out at all with all that xtra Power !

Jeff has hit a Bench Mark with this Tune !
Can't wait to offer this to Customers

Valley Runner - For that great Daily Driver Tune.
Valley Sport - For that "I want More" Customer.

I'm kind of split on these two choices. would it be possible to add each one as a variation in later updates? I feel like sport tune would have more utility with the true tow haul mode but obviously they're going to be those people (including me) that I'm sure would really enjoy a super aggressive driving experience.

It depends on what you mean exactly with this.

The valvetrain edits alone between sport and VR will prevent having a true button activated sport mode. (VF's map switching project seems to have been abandoned after we pointed out that it blew fuses).

In theory, we can utilize the sport valves and other non-ECT connected tables and simply dumb down the normal driving mode to allow ECT to shine.

Those who have the software could easily change a tune file out for as often as they'll be towing. However, the main focus is for those who rely on installers to change tunes.

So are you saying to either have ECT function as it does now in VR, or have a tow/haul mode?
Or does ECT not work well with V sport. If ECT doesn't work well with V sport then the tow/haul mode might be good since in my experience the Tacoma need some help towing.
Also I don't feel like there'd be any point to dumbing down V sport just to make ECT stand out more.

    Correct.

The ECT button in VS works but the difference is not as drastic as VR. This is why we are in the conundrum. We are leaning more towards the T/H function with sport as it could also double as a more controllable version of the tune when needed

Having a more controllable version of it would be a pretty good idea I think. Depending on it's driving characteristics I could see somebody getting tired of it if they're just trying to move through a parking lot or bumper to bumper traffic.

Did you find any breakthrough for the dead pedal on the highway? @TermLimits

I second the question about the dead pedal on the highway for current VR tune, any news @TermLimits ? Also I am unsure exactly what is changed tune wise when using ECT with the VR tune, care to elaborate? I honestly never use it but am happy with the standard "light throttle" VR tune as is. I had issue with the "normal throttle" VR tune being too aggressive on my truck in low speeds but was able to update thanks to Grossomotto.

We have not worked on VR much since getting deep into developing the sport tune. However, very very few people mention dead pedal on highway and we believe that it comes from slight addition of throttle when cruising in 5th or 6th gear. From our recreations, this is a side-effect of the gear holding functionality. Allowing for an instantaneous pedal application no matter how slight while cruising, results in the truck returning to its old gear-hunting ways. VR teeters on the edge of having gear hunting issues like stock, and solving the problem without drastically changing the shift logic of the vehicle.

Because of this, we are able to maintain the smoothest shift points in the industry along with the most refined ride quality.

Sport is different in that we are not seeking a 100% smooth ride but going for sheer power and response. Thus, the pedal tends to be more instantaneous and respond much more aggressively. Yet this tune is being designed for those who seek that performance out of their trucks.

Once sport has been released, we will shift over to finishing the 4Runner files and releasing those (very soon after sport comes out). Working our way through the 2nd Gen development. And finally back to refine/build upon Valley Runner.

Thanks for the reply @TermLimits Can you go into a little more detail on what changes are applied during ECT use with the latest version of the VR tune today?

Also if you could get the same shift logic to apply during radar cruise control usage as is applied when driving without cruise on the highway it would be the biggest game changer yet. I still have very bad gear hunting at any speed above 70mph while using CC, but if I drive myself the truck will hold its gear all day long.
