i don't think those stalks come on any 3rd gen. even in the pic it's attached to a 2nd gen.

I have the base model (SR) but my stalk has the DRL/OFF position.

 

What year do you have?

 

i have a 2018 but even this 2017 utility pkg has the DRL on its stalk (2:11 mark)

The Tacoma TRS used for the test was a 16 and they had to rewire for the lights to function with the white DRL as that model didnt have the DRL option on the stalk. So it could only be on the SR 2016 models. Its like the Tundras, 14-15 had the stalk without the DRL option but 16+ added the DRL stalk on all models.

sorry for the constant badgering about this but i just want to make sure this is the product I'm expecting and there aren't any unwelcome surprises once I swap out my headlights.

I understand thats why I have been trying to confirm the compatibility with TRS as they really are the only ones that truly knows. As Andrew said, if you have the DRL OFF option on the stalk then its compatible. He did mention "base, base" models dont have that feature. Possible they are referring to the complete base "work truck" version. Thats why I posted the quotes from Andrew and Matt at TRS so you guys can see exactly what they said.

i totally understand you're the messenger and i'm trying not to shoot you. sorry you have to be the point of contact in all of this and not TRS. i'm just trying to figure out who this new information applies to. i had also emailed morimoto about amber DRL's on all the time and this is what they said:

" I guess if you want amber, you can use the turn signal and give it 12V, but you will not have turn signal doing so."

the easiest way to solve all of this is for TRS to test install on SR/SR5 models so they can provide accurate info. hopefully they do that soon.

 

Well technically any truck with an added package isn't" base base ". But it still could have the stalk.

I wouldn't count on TRS on doing a test install. Possibly one of the 50 that will receive the lights can install on a base model to confirm. I'll check to see which or if any dealers receiving it will test.

I'm assuming the wire diagram is similar to the 16+ led headlights. If so, Andrew would be correct about the stalk as it is the switch to power the DRLS. Remember Morimoto designed to these to work exactly like stock. So if the higher end models have the exact same stalk (plus or minus fog lights which is seperate), then all the other trims below with the same stalk will function the same way.

I made the conversion harness for the 16+ Tundras and with the electrical system it's the same as Andrew explained. Tacomas could have a different electrical system but I highly doubt it differs much from the Tundras.

 

the utility package is the base of the base SR's. i don't know why it's called package since it actually takes stuff away but the bearded utility pkg tacos are the cheapest tacomas you can buy. it doesn't get any bare bones than them.

since we're not getting our headlights any time soon i guess we can wait and see the verdict on the first 50.

Regardless of arrival time, I definitely not canceling my order. The uncertainty of the tariff, at least I know I'm safe and paid for. Plus, I'll just treat like I never had that $1000.

At first, I was eager to get this headlight, but I've come to terms with the arrival time. There are so many other things you can mod on ur Taco in the meantime. Sky's the limit.

Agree! Despite current or future tariff impact uncertainties - albeit an extended delay - one thing some of us know for sure is that we secured an impressive product at a 20% discount and supported by a critical evaluation from Meso.

 

Im with you on that.. ive said it before by the time i get these headlights they will be “free” to me since i paid that bill long ago i keep trying to hold back buying more stuff but people like @MESO keep releasing shit
